S2 question from a longtime PRS user and lurker here!

Hello!

PRS player since 1997. I've never recorded or played anything else on stage. I was looking for a guitar to keep in standard tuning. So I decided to pull the string on an S2 Mira. I never played anything other than core line, figured I'd check one out. I was very pleasantly surprised! Amazing value for the price. I was taken aback by the way the neck feels in similarity to my 97 cu24.

The one issue I'm having is the static from the pick guard. It's been discussed here but I haven't heard a fix other than dryer sheets. While that works its not permanent. any ideas? I was just gonna swap the pickups for some Metals or 59/09s but...I like the pickups!

I had that same issue on two different Mira's that I tried- a core model and an S2. I returned both of them but, would like to know that there is a solution. I will be watching this thread for the results.

Can I be silly and ask about the symptom here? Is there pain and shocking?

I have an S2 Mira, and I love her, so if she wants to do ill to me I want to know!

Play my S2 Mira pretty much everyday and never a problem with static.

No shocking or pain or anything like that. If you don't use a dryer sheet on the pick guard it pops and scratches. If I run my finger along the pick guard between the pickups below the high E, it pops and cracks something fierce. Because of that when your finger touches it while playing you get random pops. I really enjoy playing it, but it has to be fixed.

Just played for several hours to see if I could recreate the issue, but couldn't. Have you popped off the pickguard assembly and checked your connections?

I've got the same problem with my S2 Mira - the dryer sheet trick works for a short time, but when I come back and play the next day I have to do it again.

I might have to get some copper tape and get to work.

I have had that same issue before on a Strat. Unfortunately I never did solve the problem.

When I got the S2 Mira I didn't experience any static problems for the first few months, but in the last couple weeks I have had a bit of static buildup that caused dust to adhere quite enthusiastically to the pickguard. Still none of the popping or discharge sounds through the amp that others have mentions so hoping that is the worst of it. If I start hearing something I will put the foil in it.

I too keep thinking that I am going to change out the pickups, then I plug it in and realize how good the stock ones are.

Same here. Before I got it dialed in I figured I'd keep the MIK pickups in until I found something else, now I'm getting some great tones out of them and loving them. One thing I'm learning about PRS, there are no accidents in their guitars, and they didn't just throw in some cheap pickups to keep costs down.

I had that problem with my tele's and strats.Removed pick guards and lined with aluminum foil problem solved

You don't have to line the entire pick guard only where your hand rests.Also I have been using a product called pre play it lowers the ph in your skin and it lubricates the neck and prolonges string life also I found it cuts down the static and it has a citrus smell very nice,your fingers will glide across the strings and it will protect metal parts from oxidation.

I finally heard the static! I never noticed it because of where my right hand rests and I rarely touch the pick guard, but tonight I brushed my hand against the pick guard and there it was.

The root cause is static electricity. It tends to build up on larger pickguards in dry environments, so it's particularly an issue for folks in arid environments or during the winter when the heater runs all the time. I've heard of the issue on SG's, Teles, and Strats, too. You may need to raise the humidity in the room where you keep your guitars.

The foil trick should work, but I think it would need to connect to ground (which it would by way of contact with the pot casings and the body of the switch. Then when you touch the guitar, the charge would be sent to ground instead of conducting through you. I'm just speaking theoretically here, since I haven't experienced this issue.

Bingo!!!. IF you look at fender replacement pickguards or other aftermarket ones, they have added the foil to deal with static charge issues. Sounds like PRS need to do the same on the Mira.
