Hello fellow PRSers.

I own a few PRS guitars:

S2 Mira
SE Semi Hollow Soapbar (one of my all-time favorites)
SE Soapbar
SE One

I have been considering getting a Custom 22 - I really like the S2 series and would be happy with one of those, especially since I love the neck on my S2 Mira. I might also consider a used Core model w/ a trem.

The question I had, which I guess is the tie breaker between the S2 and used Core - is the S2 Custom 22 too similar in tone to the S2 Mira? I think the maple cap will add some brightness. I just don't want to end up with what is basically the same guitar with different pickups and a tremolo. I'm pretty the Custom 22 vs 24 because I don't play in the upper reaches of the neck very often.

Anybody played both? I'm going to head down to GC this week and check them both out side by side. I listened to a few videos but can't really tell for sure.

Thanks!

Chris

Not an S2 Mira or solid body Cu22, but thought my perspective might be helpful. I have an all mahogany S2 Standard 22 and recently picked up an S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow. Same pickups/setup on each. The Standard is a little darker/rounder sounding. Probably given the maple top, the Custom has more chime, articulation, and sparkle, especially for clean sounds and chord work where you can clearly hear each string/note. I prefer the Custom. While they are different sounding, I haven't quite decided if they are different enough tonally to warrant keeping both.

I have played an S2 Mira a few times as well. I would expect it to be more different than the Standard since it has different pickups/stoptail bridge. The ones I've played had a great biting/edgy Classic Rock vibe, more so than my Standard. Good luck!

Thanks for all the input guys - I did some looking around and ended up picking up a used 408 Standard. I'll post more info when I get it!
