I have three core model PRS guitars.

I have a chance to pickup a 2024 S2 McCarty 594 SC, like new, for a steal. I have not held it and would not be able to unti it gets to me.

So, considering that all of my current and previous, 30 years, of PRS ownership is all Core models, will I be disappointed in an S2 model? I know that this one has USA 58/15 LT pickups and USA electronics. Nitro gloss finish.

I don't mean to disrespect the S2 line, I just have not had the opportunity to try one.

Can anyone objectively help me with this?

I would say go for it! I think that S2's are high quality, just not as flashy (no 10 tops) visually. The only potential snag for you might be the neck carve. 594's have the Pattern Vintage, which is a little too thick for some folks. So depending on what else you have and are used to, that could be a concern. Do you live near a dealership where you could try one? S2 or Core, both have the same carve

I am not really worried about neck carve. I played a core WL 594 for almost 2 years. My others are Pattern, Pattern 53, and 2 that are Wide Fat.

So, it is correct to say that starting with the S2 McCarty 594 SC in 2024, it is the same as the Core except for the top carve and the scarf neck joint?

Not the same. On the S2, woods probably won't be as pretty, the body doesn't have as much carving, and the neck is built up out of multiple pieces of wood. Those will be the main differences. The build quality and feel is still as good as a Core model IMO.

The build quality and feel is still as good as a Core model IMO - nailed it with this comment.
I had an S2 594 SC that had Wolfetone pickups and Emerson wiring harness. It played SO well and sounded great, playing "feel" was on par with my 2008 McCarty. The S2s with US electronics....no brainer for those that want a well made, great sounding guitar (without paying for the pretty top and core finish colors).

It's personal preference. I started out with a '22 S2 594 SC. Its acoustic tone rivaled the Cores with even a bit better sustain on the open strings.

But in '22 the S2's still had the import pickups and I never bonded with the beveled/flat top, the non-recessed control cavity covers or the Pattern Vintage carve. My buddy that has it now loves it.

I’m just saying what I would do. If I’m curious about a guitar and it is a steal, I check it out, spend some time with it, and if I don’t love it I move on.

Ultimately, you’re correct though. We all love a good NGD.

I absolutely love the new S2's (594 SC and Studio)!!! I hold them in as high a regard as even my Wood Library guitars!
