S2 58/15s pickups…woodier than my 57/08s

Do the 58/15s pickups have a woody tone like Jon’s video below? Seem to have a smoother tone compared to my McCarty’s 57/08. Is this video accurate?

I've only got the 58/15s pickups in one guitar - my SE Hollowbody Standard - but they're certainly a little warmer with more mid-emphasis, and don't quite have the clarity of the 57/08s I've got in my 25th Custom and Hollowbody II SC. Jon's a good player with a great ear, but I would say that video accurately represents my experience with these pups... I find they really suit the SE Hollowbody, that's for certain.

I don't know about the 58/15s pickups, but from playing a few McCarty's and Custom 22's with 57/08's and currently owing a McCarty with original 58/15's, the answer to your question is....both. I find the 58/15 to be both a bit smoother AND also having a nice woody/thunky attack and percussive nature without getting shrill. Overall, I have found 57/08's to be a bit wilder and raw than 58/15's. That said, there seems to be a fair bit of variation in 57/08 sets over the years: I have an old set that is tight, raw, angry and aggressive...a savage rock and roll PAF! I also have a newer set from 2018 that I would consider much smoother than my 58/15's.....
