Heard this earlier this evening. Man, it hit me like a hammer. I'm a long time fan. Reading his books covering his cycling/motorcycling adventures really gave some insight to the man. As a long time motorcyclist, there is a bond there for sure. I am a fortunate man to have seen him play on seven different tours, including R40.

    RIP Professor

Somebody else said it already: Neil and his band were the soundtrack of my life from the time I was about 16 on up through the triumphs of the Clockwork Angels album and R40 tour (we shall not speak of the mid-80's however...).

So many Rush songs and lyrics are drilled into my muscle memory and probably my DNA. I'm gutted.

In tribute, here are some terrible potato photos of a wonderful night: July 21, 2015 in Portland Oregon:

I just heard the news. I am just devastated as Rush is my #1 fav band. Rush was one of those bands you either loved or you hated it, and those that hated it, just didn't understand their music.

I am very grateful for they appreciation they taught me for first class progressive rock, I love the odd and ever changing time signatures. He will be missed.

It's too early to start drinking now, but I shall have a Rush day today starting from Fly By Night.

    Very sad indeed!

I was up early and road on my trainer for a few laps of the Austin 12 hour course thinking I could do more than think about this...so I think I’ll sign up for the Ride To Conquer Cancer this year. Not sure if I’ll do Ontario or Alberta.

It would be good for me to set a goal (albeit a decisively smaller one than yours) like this. It’s about time...

I litterally used to "air drum" myself into oblivion listening to him when I was a kid. Okay, okay, I did it last week but who's counting?

He will be sooo sorely missed but, we can all be thankful his musical legacy will live on forever!

Thank you! RIP Mr. Peart. :(

I personally find it neither advantageous when someone tweets something in haste.

Although this is not aimed at anyone in particular, perhaps one needs to step away from the kitchen and let the ventilation do its job. Otherwise, your cookies aren't going to be that tasty...

Sorry. Needed to supply some humor regards what could otherwise burn the house down...and hope we each can deal with this loss...unburnt virtual cookies available upon request...

I shared this sad news with my wife. She didn't know Rush. Tonight, she asked me to play something while she was cooking. I played "Subdivision" on YouTube. She said she digs it. It brought me memories.

    Thanks for the music Neil!

I wanted to ask him if Neil was happy in his retirement, but the moment takes over and passes so quickly that I forgot. In retrospect, knowing what Neil’s condition must have been, I’m so glad I didn’t ask.

I saw today that SiriusXM will be doing a limited-time Rush channel on channel 27 starting tom’w. That’ll be my only station until it’s gone.

    RIP Neil.

I discovered Rush when the 2112 Album came out.

I wore that record out and became a fan from then on.

The 1st time I got to see Rush was their A Farewell To Kings tour.

I got to sit front row right in the middle and even got a bootleg recording of the concert.

I had many memories listening to Rush over the years.

    Neil will be missed.
