The Monkees were one of my first musical influences - they were technically before my time, but the reruns when I was a kid were one of the first things that got me interested in rock and roll.

There was a rumor his mother invented “white-out.” He was the most musical of the bunch. I liked his solo tune, Joanne.

I remember getting that monkees album for Xmas, sometime around 1982 I would guess. Loved Last train to Clarksville, just wore that one out.

RIP Mike Nesmith. Interesting guy, and definitely part of good memories in my younger years. He also wrote “Different Drum,” one of Linda Ronstadt’s (then singing for the Stone Poneys) first hits. Part of the down side of getting older is seeing many of your earlier heroes who managed to survive the 60s and 70s intact see their time come, as will we all.

One of my school chums had the album, and yeah, we just about wore the groves right out of it. There was indeed magic in that record. At least to my young ears.

Didn't know until I saw this here. Wow, another part of my childhood gone. The Monkees were part of that whole era prior to my learning how to play that gave me the desire to want to learn an instrument. Loved their TV show!

RIP Michael. Thanks for the inspiration.
