RIP Kris Kristopherson

By coincidence/fate I was reading the book 'Laurel Canyon' last night which had this scene related by a waitress (Sally Stevens) at The Troubadour Club near the Sunset Strip in LA:
Kristofferson came rushing into the bar and hid behind Stevens and her friend Carol Samuels. “He said, ‘She’s looking for me! She’s looking for me!’” Stevens asked, “She who?” Kristofferson sputtered, “Barbra Streisand’s looking for me!” The women mutually decided Kristofferson had lost it. “No, I swear she’s looking for me,” he hissed. “She wants me to be in this movie”A Star Is Born—‘“and I’ve told her I don’t want to be in the movie and she won’t leave me alone and she’s hunting me down. And she’s coming in here!” says Stevens, “Sure enough, about a half an hour later, who walks in?”

Damn, this hit me right in the gut. Kris was one of those guys that I sort of thought would last forever, kind of of like Gordon Lightfoot. You'd think that I'd be getting used to some of my song heroes taking the lofty route home but it just seems to get more and more personal. Must be an age thing I guess. I will miss him, as I'm sure millions of others will too.
