RIP Ennio Morricone

So many timeless compositions. A truly legendary composer. RIP.

Between all the Spaghetti Westerns and his score for John Carpenter's The Thing he's a huge part of many film memories for me.

I'm actually sitting here with a cheapie classical guitar I keep handy for random tv time noodling sussing out "The Ecstasy of Gold" to the best of my limited abilities.

The Ecstasy of Gold has been the intro track for Metallica shows for decades.
They jam on it in this video.

Oh yeah, it's such a great hype song for the show open, so dramatic. Papa Het's gone on record as saying it's one of his favorite pieces of music, ever.

Funny thing was the first time I actually heard "Ecstacy" was on the Binge & Purge Metallica live box set as a kid. My tastes in film didn't grow to include Westerns until a few years later (in no small part thanks to Leone.) First time I saw The Good, The Bad & The The Ugly when the scene with Tuco in the Graveyard came on and this cue hit it was a "whoah!" moment for sure.
