Rewiring 5-way rotary to 1988 specs

Hey gang!

I have two Customs with the 5-way rotary and sweet switch. The '88 has the "power out of phase" setting on selector position 9. The '89 has the outer coils in parallel in that position.

I know that the guitar can be rewired to revert to the '88 configuration. I would like to know if anyone has done it themselves and if so, how hard was it for someone with basic soldering skills? Are there many things to rewire, or only a few?

Many thanks, and rock on!

Thanks. It never occurred to me that PRS would still have that info on their website. I'll check it out.

Funny coincidence, I stumbled upon this video for the first time a couple of days ago. At 22:40, the conversation turns to POOP on position 9. Paul had me in stitches with that story !

(I also stand proud with those few other weirdos who like POOP on 9.)

Were you able to find the diagrams on the PRS website? I looked but couldn't find them.

I do have this diagram that might be what you're looking for. I think if you are able to orient the switch so that it matches the diagram it should just be a matter of "soldering by numbers" and probably a little patience. Good luck!

They are under support tab.

I meant was the OP able to find the specific diagrams for the 85-89 wiring under the support tab. If you find them and can provide the link I'd be grateful.

I could find circuit board rotary stuff but I'm on my phone doing it and it's a PITA. I'd have to jump on computer to find wafer rotary diagrams

If you can't find it I could take pics of my 86 wiring and send it to you.

Thanks. The circuit board diagram was the only one I could find as well.

I don't know if your offer to take photos of your 86 was for me or the OP, but please don't do it on my account. I just was curious about the wiring diagrams and would have downloaded them for future reference. I've got no imminent wiring projects lined up.

No worries. I'd do it for most anybody.

Bumping this back up.

I've taken a close look at the switches in the guitars and at the diagrams and reached the conclusion that they represent post-POOP wiring. I haven't seen any diagram that looks like what I see on the '88's switch.

I'm still stumped. Bummer.

On position 9 on the '89, I really miss my POOP.
