Has anyone on the forum gotten a chance to demo an S2 Starla? If so, please let us know your thoughts.

I have played one briefly. Hard to beat for the cash. I personally would go used Mira/Starla (from core USA line) over a new S2. I think the price would be about the same.

For the money it is a really nice playing guitar. I think out of the 3 S2 series it is my favorite. but I would agree with Jfb, I would look for a used one of the core USA models. From what I have seen they go for about the same if not lower. The used ones I have with the Bigsby seem to be cheaper than the new S2s at least around here.

I have an S2 Starla in white, not sure if you have purchased one yet but i can tell you mine is a great player. I wasn't nuts about the pickups on either the original or the s2 starlas. I put in a set of BG pure 90 pickups and man what nice guitar. Feels great, sounds great. Really nice resonance. Fun to play, and they are pick guard loaded. so you can swap loaded pick guards with different configurations if you like.

It's May 21, 20014... does anyone own an S2 Starla? I've looked everywhere on the internet - the only review is the one above this and it's from January

As far as I know there has yet to be a S2 available at any dealer in the state of Arizona for me to go try, and the S2s were announced maybe a year ago.

That is so bizarre. My local Mom-and-Pop dealer has at least half a dozen S2's on display along with a great assortment of Core guitars and a few SE's, let alone what the bigger dealers in the area have, so I know they are making the trip out West. Hard to believe none have made it to AZ.

Bizarre is one way to put it. I can think of a slew of adjectives, most of which would probably just turn into stars by the language filters.

( and Bizarre Guitar in Phoenix might be the lowest volume PRS dealer ever!)

Admittedly, I purchased my Mira from an online retailer. Not because I couldn't get one locally but because I couldn't find a black one with birds locally and that's what I had to have.

I played one at my local dealer a couple months back. I've played the S2 version as well as a used original build. I really can't say there was that much difference between the two that I'd prefer one over the other. I was very tempted to pick up the S2, but it sold while I was still debating things. The one issue I have with both generations is the location of the push/pull tone knob for coil tap. It's kind of buried beneath the Bigsby and seemed awkward to reach. I think a redesign with the controls moved a bit forward so that they're more convenient or use a better located switch rather than push/pull would be awesome. As for tone and fun of the springy Bigsby trem, I really liked the S2 other than the tone position issue.

I've played the original 3 S2 models, and of them I actually liked the way the Starla felt and played the most. Lots of resonance, the action was good, and it just had a special vibe to it.

That being said, I'd really like to try a singlecut and a Custom 22.

I bought one unused on eBay for $699. The pickups are pretty weak. I swapped them out for some Lindey Fralin pure PAF's and now it's a mint guitar. It's a blast to play and sounds amazing.
