I have a 2008 Cu22 in Royal Blue that I love, but never cared for the color. It's just too dark. The flame doesn't show through, at least not in person. It is much darker in person than in pictures. On multiple occasions I have been ready to use it as part of a trade, but then I pick it up and think, "There's no way I can get rid of this! I love the feel!" It's been a keeper even though, IMO, it was ugly.
Along came the MannMade 2300 bridge upgrade and some doofus (me
) took out a huge chunk of finish. It was big enough for me to glue back on! To add insult to injury, I dropped a screw driver on it and added a nice gouge.
Great! Even uglier! Of course, the unintended damage bred an idea; I wonder if I should send this to the PTC? Hmmmm....off goes a request for a quote. Pretty pricey, but what-the-hell, you only go around once! Packed it up and sent it off back in March for a facelift.
Fast forward to yesterday, and my baby came home. When I opened the case I was stunned. Absolutely speechless! This FAR SURPASSED the expectations I had when I shipped her off back in May.
So here's what was done:
- Refinish Royal Blue to Purple Hazel - fade to purple with purple back instead of black. This turned out so awesome. You can clearly see flame and vertical striping now. The vertical barely visible when it was Royal Blue.
- Replace Dragon II's with a 59/09 bridge and 57/08 neck
- Replace chrome tuner buttons with ebony buttons
- Replace 5 way with 3 way toggle and 2 mini switches
- Replace speed knobs with clear (black base) lampshades
- Satin finish (ala Holcomb) on the neck and headstock
OH MY GOD! She's a hottie now. My ugly duckling turned into a princess. Thoughts of trading this one will forever be banished from my mind!
Bummed that it's raining here today. Indoor cell phone pics
