Restoring original winged locking tuners

Hi,

I've got a '97 Custom 22 which has the original winged tuners. I've lived in dampish houses over the years and the tuners have ended up with a layer of rusty tarnishing on the surface. :\

Does anyone have any suggestions about the best way to remove the tarnishing and get them back to a decent state?

You can use a product like "Flitz" to remove the surface rust. However, It will never remove anything that is pitted......
