Hi,
this is my first post here on this forum and I'm very glad to be here. I have broked my screw in locking tuner ver. III and I would like to replace it. The part of the screw is still inside of locking tuner so there's no chance to screw it out. Would you someone explain me, please, how to remove it from there? Thank you very much.

Hi there,

I just want to confirm which screw you're referring to? The thumb screw that locks the string in place?

Yikes. Other than drilling it out, which would be very tricky here, I'm going to have to think about this one.

In case you haven't yet, be sure to email customer support. They're usually pretty quick to respond during business hours.

Can you post a photo of the piece that came out? I'm curious about the texture of the surface that's left.

I'm wondering if you might have enough of a surface that it would grab onto something: if it were me, I would try putting a q-tip in a drill to try and grab the surface of what's there to ease it out.

Hopefully there's no damage to the threads. There is likely a way to do this easily enough. Don't panic!

I have no idea how to post a photo.
Thanks for a link but I have those gold and silver tuners.

That's awfully small to try and drill out, or tap. I think I would reach out to Customer Service and ask if they can provide a hybrid tuner (silver and gold). I have contacted them in the past, with success, when looking to buy something that wasn't available at the online store.

Try the Q-Tip... You might be able to ease it out enough to get a hold with your fingers

The screw broke is below the top lip of the tuner shaft, so there's no chance to hold it with fingers.

If you are in the UK or have a B&Q nearby they will have them. You can also use a small TORX bit to try and get it out. You need one with a good hard tip like a WIHA .

I have used these and some light taps on the handle with a hammer to jar small screws loose just enough to get them to back out.

I live in Prague, but thanks anyway. On Tuesday I'll visit luthier if I'll be not able to find some kind of extractor by myself here in Prague.

This will be a difficult repair. If I was trying to get it out I might try using a soldering iron to get post hot enough to expand and try pick tools to turn screw out. I would try this first before altering the broken screw.

Good luck.

If the screw has broken, there shouldn't be much tension on it,if any at all. You could try supergluing a small hex wrench to it - end on, that should give you some leverage to spin it out, just don't use too much and glue it in place permanently.
