Guys,

Looking for a fat and warm Alnico pickup to drop in replace my Dragon bridge pickup. It uses the five way rotary.

Music is hard rock, 80s, 90s rock and some metal, some classic rock too.

Suggestions?
Maybe a Dragon II?
Newer model?

Thanks!

Isn't your final answer always the same? Tremonti or 250
Lol,

I was playing in a modern metal band where I loved the SC250.

I joined a cover band where we also do originals and I've been getting back to my roots where I always played alnico V/II medium to medium hot winds. They feel and sound fatter and sweeter for what we play. I have a Suhr Aldrich in my LP and it's doing better for our music. Got a Wolfetone Timbrewolf that kills in my SC250 bridge.

For the CE22, gonna set the Dragon bridge aside for now and either grab a DII or another Alnico PRS. I am sticking with PRS because I want the drop in replacement for the 5-way rotary.
But I will never sell the Dragons!

The thing is, I hate bright pickups. My amps have plenty of highs so I go for warmer, preferable darker pickups.

Is the 59/09 pretty dark?

For the music that you play you don’t like the Dragon? Is it a Dragon1? If so and you want to sell it, let me know

Ehh… at least the DII will be inexpensive. You may like it, I find them kinda hot and squishy, but it’ll work with your rotary.

PLEASE PM me if you're going to sell the Dragon1.

Thank you
It will never be sold.

Not selling.
I have a nervous system disorder and I find alnico pickups have more give and have a softer attack. The Dragon is ceramic and very immediate and tight. Harder for me to play when my hands are not cooperating, lol.
I've been using my alnico pickups in other guitars and it's been helping. So I'm switching to alnico II and alnico V pickups. They have more chew and natural compression.

That's what I want and need - squishy. When you struggle with nerve problems and hand control, trust me, it helps.
They are hard to find used.

I understand…. Alnico 2’s will be generally warmer with less highs than Alnico 5’s….

Compresses too..

I talked to my friend Wolfe who winds pickups for a living and he said to get Alnico II pickups as they compress the most and will help if I am struggling with some nerve issues and erratic picking and fretting hand issues. It will help smooth things over a bit. The ceramic pickups are too precise, articulate and revealing it seems. Even Alnico V doesn't compress much.
Alnico II isn't that right however, but as long as the pickup is chunky and fat I'll make it work. I prefer that softer feel and chunk, over tight.

Found a dragon II bridge for $100.
Hopefully it blends with my DI neck Pickup. I wouldn't mind both pickups being black in this guitar!

Maybe I'll sell the Dragons. Not sure. :)
If I do, I will let you guys know.

Remove the cover

What cover?
The neck Dragon I is a Zebra, lol.
So I'll have a black DII in the bridge slot and a zebra DI neck. It still looks cool but maybe the DII neck will blend with the bridge better.

I figured your D2 was covered and no way for me to know your D1 is zebra.

I've never mixed zebra and black but do have a covered in the bridge and zebra in the neck for my KL33 that looks pretty good.
