Replacing 49.2mm bridge pickup with 53mm pickup?

I have a 2004 Custom 22 with Dragon II pickups which are both 49.2mm. The guitar has a tremolo and the string spacing over the bridge pickup is just a tiny bit shy of 53mm. I'd like to get some aftermarket pickups and I'd prefer to get a 53mm bridge pickup so that the pole pieces are in line with the strings (mainly for aesthetics since I know the tone effect is negligible). Are 50mm and 53mm pickups generally the same physical size and the only difference is the pole spacing? I want to be sure I won't have any trouble getting the 53mm to fit properly in the mounting ring since the Dragon II is 49.2mm. The pickups (stock and the ones I'm considering) are both uncovered, by the way.

The actual size of the pickup doesn't change. I installed Bare Knuckle VHII's in my Cu22 with 53 mm spacing. Much better than the Dragon II IMO.
