Replace SE nut with core nut?

I just got an SE Akesson and have a couple of questions. It's a great guitar, but the stock nut is too narrow for a .046 low E string. I don't have any nut files (or any experience filing a nut) but I do have a couple extra PRS Wide Thin/Fat Nuts, part ACC-4204.

Can I replace the nut on my SE with the Wide Thin/Fat nut? Has anyone done this? Any issues or things to look out for?

Also, how difficult is it to remove the old nut and install a new one? I've replaced tuners, pickups and messed with wiring, but haven't worked on a nut before.

The tech I like to use is a little far away to be convenient, so I'd like to give this a try myself if possible. Thanks for any help!

I've heard of a bunch of guys here who have made the swap, the only thing that would be of concern to me is I thought I heard the Akesson has jumbo frets, is that true? If so the nuts may not be compatible.

I've had success widening SE nut slots with some finer-grit sandpaper folded over if you don't have files.

Thanks Sergio. It does have jumbo frets, but they're about the same size as the core frets. I think SE frets in general are smaller.

I may try the sandpaper route first. That could be an easy fix.

I used 320 grit (I think) for the last one I did because that's what I had laying around.

The stock ones are a little tall for my taste so they should work well, even with big frets. This is totally subjective but I like it on my SE One just fine.
