So I own 4 PRS' and a few Gibsons and the odd Fender. I have been paying attention to only one guitar lately (about 3 months) and its now driving me crazy that I keep going back to that guitar. I want to play my other ones that I spent my hard earned money on but my mind is just telling me to go play that sexy Custom 24 over there. Is this a problem or am I just weird? Im sure it happens to you guys too..

Is this a problem or am I just weird?

The oldest guitar in my stable has been with me for 25 years, and I haven't actually played it but maybe 20 minutes in the last two. It's exquisite, and I love it, but my hands have changed since I bought it, and now it's not comfortable for me to play.

On the down side: I will miss it, but I'm not the kind of guy that leaves guitars to rot in a case -- if they don't get played, I'll sell to people who'll put them to use.
On the bright side: it's gunna be the down payment on a Santana, when I do move it.

By all means stick with what you like, but life is dynamic... don't be afraid to mix it up to get what you want.

The only problem I see are those three Gibson’s and odd Fender. You know you could trade those for more PRS, right?

After buying my first Paul Reed Smith custom 24 in either late 1989 early 1990 I couldn’t put it down, slowly I cleansed myself of my USA Kramer’s, Gibson’s, Fender’s, Ibanez’s Etc. etc. etc. and acquired more PRS’s. You are right on track for a happy and healthy musical life!

My wife bought me a 2000 Mccarty. After that gift, I sold my LP, Kramer, Charvel
And the 3 Ibanez guitars i had.

Then I started getting interested in more prs models. I kept the G&L Nighthawk that I bought new in 83 but I have 8 prs guitars now and lust after many more. I don't even browse other brands.

Keep the guitars gifted from your dad, they are special. All other guitars are stupid.

I'll be the lone voice to the contrary. PRSi are most of my collection (15 or so), but I've kept one LP and one Strat. It's fun to go back to them once in a while and work at it, to remember how hard they are to play.

I’ll be the other “lone” voice to the contrary. I have one PRS and one strat and I like them about equally. The 594 is a bit more perfect, but the strat is a good deal funkier sounding. Some days I like smoother and more perfect, some days I like funky. Many times I like each more at different times of day. I don’t find the strat harder to play - just different. The feel of a good Fender neck is in my DNA after 40 years of playing them. I’m sure I’d love the feel of the Silver Sky too, but to say my strat ain’t broke and doesn’t need fixing would be the understatement of the decade... I don’t like tremolos either and my strat is a hardtail, so it’s not going anywhere.

I recently spent a few months barely playing a Fender at all, first playing an Ibanez semi-hollow and then the 594. I got used to the shorter scale and thought I’d moved on from Fenders, but then I started missing the strat, started playing one again, and it really feels sort of like coming home. Like it’s where I live and the 594 is the fancy and beautiful oceanfront villa where I also like getting away to as much as I can, and it’s sort of soul soothing. But as much as I love spending time there, I always love getting back home too...

I’ve never been a “many guitars” guy - I even tried and returned a great SE Soapbar II recently because having three was a little confusing to my binary brain. I love having two that feel and sound waaaay different because they both call out to me and it’s always easy to know which one I’m in the mood for. And if the one I’m playing isn’t moving me, I put it down and grab the other and that almost always does the trick. That binary choice works for me but it was a lot tougher for me with a third (the Soapbar II) that in some ways split the difference between the two...

I am doing the same lately. My solution is what the jokers here already suggested... i am going to sell the ones im not playing any more and im soon picking up another PRS haha

I have six guitars total. A LP, a Schecter Hellraiser, a Squier Tele (that my uncle gave me), a DGT and two Tremonti SEs (1 Custom and 1 Standard). Truth be told, my favorite out of the bunch is the Tremonti SE Custom because it just feels proper and sounds the best out of all my guitars. True, the DGT is the best crafted out of the bunch because it’s a Core instrument but overall, the Custom has been my main weapon of choice for a while now. While my other guitars haven’t gotten much love lately, I also can’t bring myself to part with them because of what I went through to get them and also because they represent a place marker of certain times in my life that are special. Take my Les Paul for example. It’s a blue Studio that was a Guitar Center-Musician’s Friend exclusive in 2004 (the other colors were a vomit top orange or ebony). It certainly was
not my first choice for my first LP but it sat there alone and I guess my heart went out to it after playing it. Now it’s covered in knicks, dings, dents, scrapes and scratches, the headstock has broken off at least four times, it has gone through more pickup changes than my car has had tire rotations but yet, it would be the first one I grab in case of a house fire or zombie apocalypse. Even still, PRS to me is the pinnacle of guitar making for many years now and to finally own three let alone one is an amazing feeling. Brand loyalty aside, when it feels and sounds like it was made just for you, that makes it all that much more special. To think of purchasing another brand of guitar in my mind feels like I would be cheating on my wife (although a Firebird would be an exception because PRS doesn’t make anything in that style yet lol).

While I'm not anywhere near 15 PRS (yet), I do still have 1 LP and 1 Strat and plan on keeping them for now.
I like my LP - it reminds me how far guitars have come and how much better PRS are :)

Ill take your word, I might consider on selling the ones that I bought or have a story to them. When you brought up Charvel that made me thought of the guitar I always wanted since childhood, a polka dot flying v just like Randy Rhoads'. So I might consider having one of those then the all the PRS's and LP's.

Heres how the guitar looks like: https://reverb.com/item/3249958-sandoval-engineering-polka-dot-v

No it doesn't. Not to me. I have a bunch of different guitars that I gig.

2 x PRS
1 x Squier
1 x Rickenbacker
2 x Gibsons
1 x Hagstrom

They all get played about the same. The cheaper ones are upgraded to the standard of the expensive ones.
Sometimes I will favour one over another, but that changes constantly.

If I felt as you do. I would consider getting rid of the ones that are redundant. I traded the Strat I used exclusively for 23 years. I have sold others too & never looked back with regrets.
