I just realized there is a place on the PRS web site to register your guitar or amp based on serial number, purchase date, etc. . .Of course, I did it. (Well TWICE....I accidentally registered one that I sold----basically looked at the wrong headstock photo [I'm at work] and then realized it AFTER clicking submit....lol)

What’s the purpose? Does it offer an advantage? I just looked, and I didn’t see any statement about why it should be done.

It appears that if the main purpose isn’t marketing strategy, it’s at least partially. “Income?” “Education?” I keep my receipts in the cases. I assume that accomplishes the same purpose for warranty.

The only thing I can see that made it worth my while is if my guitar is ever stolen and ends up at prs for a repair.

I would expect to be notified.

It does, but if the guitar is stolen with its case, you have no receipt as proof of whatever it is you need to prove regarding ownership. I'd imagine in your case they're all prudently added to your insurance policies as you buy them, so I maybe it doesn't matter.

I keep the receipts separate from the guitars. Which probably doesn't matter, either.

It simplifies warranty service, and helps them with records. It may be that the next "Eric Clapton Les Paul" or "Buddy Holly Strat" might be of historical interest. I'm sure it has a purpose, or they wouldn't be doing it. How much is for them and how much is for the customer, i couldn't say. At the least, it certainly harms nothing for a owner to do it.

I've registered them when bought new, and some used ones. I'm not certain they're all on the books though.
