Tone of the Art......or is that backwards?

Been playing this guitar proper since it arrived recently, and I must say I am very impressed.

First off, the feel. It feels rock solid and rigid, with the neck feeling as straight as an arrow and sturdy as a rock when you fret notes and move around. It’s as if the strings and the neck do not impede your fingers, and the fret height is such that the reaction pushing back against your fingers as you fret a note, is one that evokes assurance and confidence. The strings have a nice bounciness to them. I never knew what it was really like to play with butter, till now. The weight is so light and comfortable, you hardly feel it carrying it. Given how solid and rigid it feels, it’s amazing how light it is!!

The tone. Well it’s unique and ear-catching. The humbucker tones are intense and focused, and it is ideal for high gain solos, think 80’s rock. If some tones are like diffuse search lights, this one is like a laser beam. Cuts thru anything. The single coil mode with neck pickup, is very unique and pleasing. Certainly the tones find their own place between the Strats, Les Pauls and Gretches. Resonance is fantastic - it’s easily one of the loudest electric guitars when played acoustically.

Looks. Well, what can I say. Looks like a mini work of art hanging off the wall. Certainly looks more sophisticated than the LP and strat it has for immediate neighbors. Those abalone birds are beautiful and give an exquisite air to the guitar. The color, in some weird way, is mentally conducive to encouraging play. Wait, what?? Yeah what do you know, it’s just weird.

In summary, this is a guitar that encourages me to play, and write. And for a lazy bloke like me, there’s no better compliment. This guitar just screams: “I’m the real deal, respect me.”

Well done, PRS.

Nice, thanks for sharing!
What’s the weight of it and what weights can be expected? I was under the impression that my CU24 was lighter than my McCarty 594 but when I checked they are both 3.7 kg.

I don’t have a weighing scale with me, but I would accurately put it at about 7 pounds - hollowbody territory!

Great feedback! DANG now I REALLY want one!!!

Man! This coming from a guy that has some of the most killer PRSi on this forum!! What a testament of how great ALL the lines of PRS really are.

I for one was worried when I heard the bulk of the SE line had moved production from Korea to Indonesia a couple of years back. I can tell you for sure, my concerns were squashed after having owned two different SE245s from Indonesia.

Bottom line is, not all of us can afford several grand for a guitar. The SE line from PRS still has "the mans" name on the head stock which as we all know is synonymous with greatness. Hands down best value on the market!

I also have a red one like yours and agree with everything you say. It's a cracking piece of kit, which punches way above the price tag. I love it and it is perfect for an every day guitar.

Interesting you’re using the words “rock solid and rigid” as your first impression - That was also the first thing that struck me when I picked up my core PG i received yesterday. It feels quite different compared to my other PRS:s even though in theory they are rather similar (Cu24 and 594, also core).

Yes, it’s weird isn’t it? I suppose it’s perception, cos technically speaking any electric guitar should feel solid. Perhaps it’s the size and shape of the neck - certainly chunky and substantial! And perhaps the weight balance matters too.

Wait....maybe it’s just Paul. :p

I don’t think Paul would appreciate you calling him chunky and substantial!;)
