Random. No more or less

So it's a trip to the Saw Bones this morning. Hopefully he can arrange for another nerve conduction test and with any luck a chance to get some more permanent relief from this blasted carpal tunnel issue. Cripes, I can't even sit and type or rest my arm on the chair arm (or anywhere else for hat matter) without my fingers going numb anymore. Don't need to tell you what it does when I play for any length of time. Plus I've discovered what feels to me like an arthritis node at the inner base of my left middlefinger/palm joint. This getting older thing sure makes itself known in some very uncomfortable ways. Worst thing is, it isn't even the hand that I've ever damaged in my rambunctious youth or sporting days. Sometimes you just have to ask: WTF?!!!😱😢😟
Best wishes on a resolution for that Daryl! My medical stuff that last 2 years has me shaking my head as well!!

What was the “best” Christmas present you received as a child. Something that excited you so much that you thought you would die when you opened it up?
The 101 Electronics Kit! I was certain I was going to take over the world with that kit ;~)) For those of you who do not know what this was, it was a circuit board more or less with spring connectors so you could wire up your own electronic devices. Then about 2 years later, a cousin gifted me their similar kit, so I now had twice as many components to work with and bridge between!! Endless hours of fun playing with that and building my own electronic devices including a radio ;~))

Into the Pain Clinic on the 23rd for another shot. Then a few months to see what the level of continuing discomfort level is before another conduction test. Personally I think it's just more of a too common delay tactic by our system, but whatever. The node I spoke of is (according to my Doc) a tendon cyst. Whatever the *%^! that means. All I know is it's painful and limits my dexterity above and beyond the carpal issue. I will ask the Clinic person about it when I'm there though. Ah well, more medical travel receipts for my tax return I suppose.
That's 5 trips into the City this year for various reasons. Good thing I'm a pretty healthy type of guy, would hate to see if I was a mess.😱

I am so sorry that you have to go through this.
THIS SUCKS! 😢

I remember my hand going numb and it feeling so weird before my surgery. I would massage it, bend it gently in so many ways, put a frigging heating pad on it for relief or ice. Temporary relief. Surgery was the only answer.

On a POSITIVE note I am headed downtown on either Wednesday or Thursday. Union station is a mega transit building. They have cordoned off 5000 sq ft. for roller skating. 2 hour time slots and you have to register online. The DJ’s are amazing. Something to look forward to! Registered just now and going Thursday.

So... the power goes out at my house in a windstorm that pushes gusts of almost 100kmh. I go shopping.
Then I go get my hair cut. Then I dump my goods off at my cold dark home. Screw it, went to the office for 3 hours so I could use internet. Left there a little after 5:30pm thinking I'd go to my local pub, have a couple, eat supper and watch the hockey game.
No... the pub has permanently closed down. Crap! OK, went to a close by Cactus Club. Packed, crap! Go to a nearby Brown's Social House, nope packed... crap!
Go to another pub called the Sundowner. Dammit, permanently closed! Sh!t... Found another close by pub... nope closed for a private party, f$#@ Go to a pub a couple of miles away... FFS... cash only, WTF? Found my way to another Brown's Social House a few miles away and here I sit at 7:30 waiting for supper... Holy crap. Yesterday was fine, but today is a serious Friday 13th leftover!
:D

I forgot one pub I tried and it was closed without power as well... So that was 7 fails before finding a spot.
Anyway, got home, opened the car door and the neighborhood lit up with power again. That felt good.
Yeesh... :)
I have my Honda 3000w backup generator in case that happens. Will run my gas fireplace in the winter (along with my wood stove) so the house won't freeze at 40 below. Could probably plug in the TV and sat receiver too if I wanted to... wi-fi is in a different room so Netflix would be fubar.🤣
Last Christmas was the first time in 3 years it wasn't 40 below and the power didn't go off. Now that I have backup power in place...🙄

I'm hoping that will happen. But Doc says I need to take the steroid jab and see what relief it provides first. I've done it twice before and it keeps getting worse so I will speak with the pain clinic tech while I'm there for that opinion. I know I let it go too long this time, it was bugging me big time during race season. That node/tendon cyst is worrisome though, not sure what that will end up as. At least it's not a rheumatoid lump...but I knew it wasn't trigger finger.

Hope your skate is fun though, sounds like a great time

One of our long time friends came over for a visit Friday, wanted to pick my wife's brain about some medical tings for her mother's age related ills (cardio, med related issues and all that). so I retired to my guitar cave to do my thing while the gals chatted. Was pretty deep into some acoustic stuff when the door opened and my missus brought Kathy in for a boo. she was interested in my 12 string so I picked it up and warmed up the strings a bit. I figured a little jam-along to Hotel California was in order and as soon as I struck the opening riff I knew it was a tad off tune. Just went through my normal tweaks and as soon as I touched the button on the upper G (like waaay less than an eighth turn) snap! The string went west. I mean it happens but sheesh, what a bummer. Oh well, it was due for a new set anyway I reckon. Just not a good time for it. So I grabbed the McCarty and did a little minor blues stuff for her to hear. Missus looked at me and said "who's song is that, never heard it before..."
"Just me noodling away" I said. I'm not sure she believes me...like WTF is that about? 🙄
Have a broken 12 string guitar right now, but I have at least one new fan for my efforts haha.
I have to go into the city a week from Monday for my shot so I'm going to let my guy at L&M do the strings for me. I don't trust myself to do the 12 string. 6 strings I have no issues with, but that 12 scares me a bit.

Just a drive by hello. Lol

I am so happy to be so chaotically busy 24/7.
I love it because I have NO clue as to how to relax. I am sure this is bad for me but!
I took a few days off of work this week to use up my PTO and I have yet again discovered that I don't remember how to relax. That is something I would love to fix but am not even sure how to fix it.

I haven’t dealt with an extended power outage in… Geez, since 2007ish. Power was out for 4-5 days. I’d been camping and there was a storm at home. Stupid me, I went back home to see if there was anything useful to be done. The suburbs during an extended outage are a miserable place to be in July. I should have stayed camping.

Now we live in a place with buried power lines in the neighborhood. Every few years we’ll get a blip where the power will go out for 30 seconds to a few minutes. I feel pretty fortunate.

Glad to see you back!!

I, too, have discovered that relaxing isn’t a natural thing for me. Being a stay at home dad now, I shouldn’t feel so stressed or anxious. Part of me thinks it’s only been six months, so maybe I’m still wired for a more eventful day.

I honestly thought I would have a blast being at home but it’s really not a good situation for me to be in personally.

It’s the nature of the beast. I just go with my flow.

I took a week off after Thanksgiving. We had plans but they got canceled. I used the week to do work and some bigger projects around the house. I then did a good bit of maintenance on my motorcycle. At some point I pulled something in my back, probably because I haven't been doing a lot and am out of shape. That knocked me down and kept me from doing anything more than working and sleeping for over a week. I have had a couple of times in my life where I had more than a week off of work without anything planned and those times have taught me that I can keep myself busy for about a week, then I get bored. That pretty much tells me that I will never be able to fully retire. I will have to have something to get up for in the morning and do each day.

I can relate. This is who we are. I have NO plans on slowing down. I am so used to having a very busy schedule. It’s a coping mechanism! It keeps all the boogie men away.

I can’t function any other way. I don’t know how!

I am so happy that I am so insanely busy.

Is this the original DreamTheaterRules?
Yes, I noticed you hadn't participated any any of the attempted humor threads about my screen name.

Note for the future: I'm just being silly with this name change stuff, but if you go into your PM's, the name change will show there so you'll know it's me. You should vote in the name change poll thread though. :D

I am pushed for minutes right now. Would you mind giving me a link? Please and thank you.
