Random. No more or less

So right now I'm nibbling on a favorite treat. The leftover pie crust dough, I flatten out and put on a pan dusted with cinnamon and sugar, then lightly baked to a golden brown. Soooo heavenly!
Or, make some Roly Polies. My mother made these for us whenever she baked. She would flatten out the dough, brush it with a bit of butter and then fill with a dollop of whatever jam was in the fridge and some walnuts or peanuts, roll it up and bake it. What a great snack or even a dessert.

I could eat some raw shortbread cookie dough right about now. High cholesterol and not very heart healthy but Idc atm.

What was the “best” Christmas present you received as a child. Something that excited you so much that you thought you would die when you opened it up?

Great question! For me it was probably the Millennium Falcon, OR the aircraft carrier that had a real catapult that launched "nerf" WW2 airplanes.

Favorite Christmas gift? Snow. I'm in Minnesota, so there's always snow. When I was around 10, though, we had a snowstorm right around Christmas. It made travel unsafe, so we stayed home that Christmas. The norm for me had always been going to my father's parents' for Xmas Eve and then on to my mother's mom's for Christmas Day. Such a circus of cousins, odd food (anybody want some lutefisk?), and cold time in the car next to my bothersome younger brother.

Getting to spend one childhood Christmas at home was awesome! Relaxed, comfortable, and peaceful. That's how we do holidays now.

We had a similar routine. Every Christmas Eve we went to my grandparents on my dad’s side and that whole side of the family would be there. Then on Christmas Day (after our immediately family Christmas at home on Christmas morning) we went to my grandparents on mom’s side and that whole side of the family would be there. At that time, neither family had spread out far so I saw most of them all the time anyway, but still those memories will last forever.

My second hand bike that my father meticulously took apart, cleaned it up and then painted it teal green my with white fenders. I was the queen of the road and when spring hit I was never to be seen again. That bike represented freedom.

Christmas dinners were a main event with a lot of cousins, aunts and uncles in the mix. Ppl that I would only see once or twice a years. But the food was incredible. The smokers in the backyard were upset with my dad because he wouldn’t let them smoke in the house even in the 60’s. My dad hated cigarettes! But he would light one for my mother if conditions were not right and she couldn’t light it herself! Go figure.

I am sure we all have precious memories of past Christmases.

Then New Year’s Day was the biggest bash of the year for my husband’s family. We’re talking 75 ppl for a buffet dinner.

I was smart and never drank the night before. I did previous years and being so busy with a searing hangover didn’t go over well.

I do like Christmas but the chaos involved is sometimes too much. My room with my guitar for a bit and then I am good to go.

A 3 speed bicycle... out at 9am, back at 5pm and nobody worried. The freedom was spectacular!

Most kids bike was their "race car"... mine was my "airplane"! My dad was a pilot. Just recently I mapped how far we used to ride our bikes on this one particular adventure... I'm taking BMX bikes, with 20" wheels, over 2 bridges (big ones over the Ohio River), and it was 18 miles round trip. Doesn't sound like much on a road bike, but on a BMX bike with 13-year-old legs, LOL. The adventures we had!

So I got asked a favour. A friend of a friend owns a convenience store and his wife is six months pregnant with two little ones 2 and 4 at home. I am working part time for them part time 4:30 am until 9 just Monday, Wednesday and Fridays just to help them out. Then go home and then to my other job.

That is a wonderful gesture on your part Lola! The 4:30 am thing sort of gives me pause though. I did a 4:00 am thing for several years in the oilfeild, and that entailed 12-16 hour days 7 days a week and lots of road trips. But doing another job on top of what you're doing for them does add up and wear on a person. Still, full marks to you!👏

So it's a trip to the Saw Bones this morning. Hopefully he can arrange for another nerve conduction test and with any luck a chance to get some more permanent relief from this blasted carpal tunnel issue. Cripes, I can't even sit and type or rest my arm on the chair arm (or anywhere else for hat matter) without my fingers going numb anymore. Don't need to tell you what it does when I play for any length of time. Plus I've discovered what feels to me like an arthritis node at the inner base of my left middlefinger/palm joint. This getting older thing sure makes itself known in some very uncomfortable ways. Worst thing is, it isn't even the hand that I've ever damaged in my rambunctious youth or sporting days. Sometimes you just have to ask: WTF?!!!😱😢😟
