Random. No more or less

Time for winter gear. I just took the dogs for their walk with their snowsuits on. I made things easy for me. I just wore my snowmobile 1 piece and it was toasty. 1 stop shop for these cold days. Just needed gloves. I forgot about this piece of clothing. Ski doos are long gone.

Well, plowed and shoveled more snow again today. And it's not done from the forecast. Ah well, if it's gonna be winter, might as well be snowy.
Carpal tunnel is really giving me fits the last couple weeks. Time for another conduction test, but I think I already know what that's going to show...and then em, (sigh). Reckon I'll find out when I talk to my Dr on Monday.

Would you ever consider surgery?

I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand about 10 years ago and it has been great ever since. It’ my left hand. My glorious picking hand. Arthritis and broken baby finger are causing me issues. I am very careful with how much abuse my hands get in a day. Abusing them is not option.

During my conduction tests and evaluation a couple years back the powers that be decided that surgery wasn't indicated at that time. I'm certain a re-evaluation is in order, but getting in for one is a painful (literally) process. Hopefully tomorrow my doctor has some uplifting news. I'd settle for another injection right now, but I'm sure that surgery is in my near future. How near? Well this is AHS we are dealing with here. My wife worked in Alberta Health Services (professional front line) for 40 years and she's very glad to be retired from it. Way too many chiefs and far too few Indians (not meant as a slur on our Indigenous people in any way, she actually is one) in the system. Top heavy bureaucracies are never about efficiency, and AHS is waaaay out of control.

I was very hesitant at first to get this. My doctor told me that for my particular situation that this surgery would be warranted with a very positive outcome. It was positive all the way around. I went to see him for a second consultation and the date was set. I was wide awake and it was over in about 20 minutes. I honestly was playing my guitar 2 days later. I shouldn’t of but did.

Brrrrrr, it's cold this morning. -28*c (18 below f) right now and should hit -30 with the infamous "sunrise sag" at daybreak. Not the coldest of winter days for sure, but after an unseasonably mild fall this is a tad painful. Thankfully we didn't get a whole lot more snow after I did all that clearing yesterday. But I do have to do some outdoor work anyway so will wait til mid day when it's a tad more bearable out. Long as the wind doesn't blow it won't be too bad.
Of course, the Postal Service strike has the country in chains. so not trying to add any fuel to the fire on either side, it's a bad time for what should be an essential service to be on a walkout for whatever reason. Hopefully they get the collective s**t together and soon. I have a new credit card somewhere in the limbo world of non-delivery...Thankfully the current one doesn't expire until the end of January and I can always get a new one couriered to me with only a week or so delay in coming.
So a bit of dark humor on the situation, and it is only meant in jest...sort of...;)

I'm more worried about the possibility of heavier work like shoveling snow and plowing. I can get away with pretty much all other stuff with one good (OK, somewhat better) hand and arm. Worst thing is herself is seeing a sports medicine specialist for a torn rotator cuff and supra-spinatus (spelling?) surgical repair in the near future.... with any luck they won't conflict or coincide. I should be able to drive afterward, but she sure won't. She had the other shoulder done a few years ago. Ever lived with a caged bear?😱🤣

"Supra-spinatus" spelling is correct, but is written as one word over here...... I asked the missus, who's a nurse. As for myself, over the last four months I've been recovering from a very minor rotator cuff injury, so trust me when I say I wish your better half all the best.

I'm certainly not going to be doing anything very taxing this winter, other than re-painting and re-fitting our old rehearsal space, which we've finally got back after much finagling.

Hope you get better without too much discomfort.
Missus had here other one done 3 years ago this January. Long recovery time. They told her 6-12 weeks at the outset. Then when the 12 weeks was up they told her: "yes, that's is just for the initial pain to recede..." She was well over a year after physio and getting her strength anywhere close to being back. This one, the damage is more severe with the ligaments and one of the connective tendons has retracted. She may have closer to the temperament of a pi$$ed off mountain lion than a bear during the recovery... 🙄 I may be spending a lot of time down in my guitar cave once I'm healed sufficiently😂

We've seen the Northern lights on full display so far this year, and we can expect more of the same in the months and even years ahead. But why? Why has the Aurora Borealis been so unusually bright, and why has it been visible so much farther south than normal? Here's the science behind what's going on.
Canada and the northern United States have been having an amazing year so far. Especially across the Prairie provinces, night skies have been alive with arcs and ribbons of the Northern Lights.

On no less than four separate occasions so far in 2024 — on May 10, August 12, September 12, and October 10 — auroras were so bright and active that they could be seen across all of Canada, and in even down into the southern United States.

Well, things have looked up some on the physical health side. Missus is tentatively booked for her shoulder on or about March of the new year. She got another shot in the arm (literally) yesterday so it takes 3 months to clear that before any surgery can be done, but her specialist said the timing would be just about perfect. And it has actually been over 5 years since her other shoulder repair...I can't keep track of time worth beans anymore. Maybe my race crash did mess up my squash more than I realized haha.
I'm in to see my GP next Thursday and then another booster and nerve conduction test whenever he can set that up for me. Not what I want to go through but it needs to be done and get this over and done with. So tired of the numbness and pain. It used to be just after long playing and practice sessions, or long races gripping the bars. But now it's all times of the day or night, any position that I'm in without actively moving in a reasonably gentle fashion. (sigh).
But on the positive side, the deepfreeze has broken outside and we're in a mild thaw today (Sunday morning it was -30*c (22 below f) so I'm heading out to hang some Christmas lights while it's above freezing.🎄😁

I have no New Year's mood this year
I hope it will change, but so far I am not even able to decorate my apartment. maybe it is due to the heavy workload at work. i had to work overtime lately because of the need to increase my income. How is your mood?🎄
I “Griswalded” my house. From the bathrooms to the bedrooms and everything in between. The tree(treefarm) has been up since last week. I am just not in the holiday spirit. I am so distracted. I have to learn new computer programs at work, I have my April 2025 project on the go. We have to think about an upcoming surgery for hubby. His 6th and hopefully final one.

This year has not been a good year except for my working on my “project” and leaving a very toxic job. It’s really weird how at my new job everyone is very nice. Only time will tell.

I had a very bad week to end November. Not even going to talk about all the crap that went sideways, it's over, and I'm on to better things, whatever they are.
I have fresh apple pies in the oven right now, oooh they smell good! Apples off our own tree in the yard, my special recipe. Not that it's really special, it's just a worked over edition of an old favorite that everybody uses. It's our annual AGM of the Edmonton Motorcycle Roadracing Association and I was requested (OK begged) to bring some of my now famous baking).
So right now I'm nibbling on a favorite treat. The leftover pie crust dough, I flatten out and put on a pan dusted with cinnamon and sugar, then lightly baked to a golden brown. Soooo heavenly!
I might even have time to drop by a guitar store tomorrow on the way to the meeting...😈🤫😄

I noticed mail to Canada is suspended due to the Union of Canadian Postal Workers Strike merely a few months after getting my Canadian-made custom Yin-Yang truss rod cover for my 1st Chinese PRS guitar.
