Random. No more or less

This Vox DA5 is really a good little amp it’s not doing what it needs to do now that I have plans.

I think I am going out in a limb here. I was thinking maybe of buying a mini generator and bringing my Katana with me. Too much hassle? The place where I am playing rivals the size of a medium stage. There are a few levels higher that I can step up to and jump off of safely. I have done this a lot but never with my guitar in hand.

The lake was starting to freeze over during the time since Halloween. But the mild days have melted most of it off. Out in the wild, there's some frozen patches in the low spots, but not like usual. Pretty wet for walking and no snow to track with (yes, I'm a hunter/harvester) so it's tough going right now.
I remember a year like this around 40 years ago out at our bush camp. Very mild and wet. 3rd night out it started to snow and you could feel the temperature dropping fast. We had a large outfitter tent with a wood heater, but mid way through the night the fire went out. We woke up to a foot high/deep snowdrift in the doorway of the tent and it was terribly cold outside the sleeping bag (I have an arctic rated bag). The thermometer on the tree outside read 25 below f! Our 3 wheeled ATC axle's were frozen solid and we had to break them loose with the blunt end of the camp axe. Thank god they started! That day on the way back to our trucks, I slipped off a log bridge and fell into a pond and was trapped/pinned under my trike. My buddy pulled me out, but not before he stood there laughing and taking pictures of my predicament!
Was a very long cold winter that year.
Supposedly, the indications are when it does hit we're supposed to get that kind of weather this year. Not sure how they can say that, they can't seem to get a two day forecast right...☹️
I went to South Carolina for the month because I don’t enjoy the coming of winter. I don’t mind after it arrives, I just prefer to skip the coming.

I feel much the same as dreamtheatrerules.
It’s a good, social sport. It keeps most of your body parts moving and your brain has to be engaged.
I don’t consider it a cardio workout though.

Where abouts in SC? That is such a beautiful state. I think of the Smokey Mountains and just how incredible they are. Beauty all around you! Tennessee and Kentucky just incredible states too. I remember after a severe rainstorm driving through the mountains in the clouds. I will never forget that.

Actually saw a trucker use the runaway trails on the side of the mountains. My husband said watch this truck as it approached the trail. It happened so fast. He stopped right at the top of the runway. I can’t even imagine how afraid this guy was!! I imagine he was okay physically!

You Americans have some beautiful country!!

I go to the northern coast this time of year.
I like all of the Carolinas though. If I moved to the US, that’s probably where I would go.

A question for you retirees. How do you manage your time? I am currently looking for a job in my field but it’s extremely difficult.

I have a 19, soon to 20 year old daughter with Down Syndrome. She is going to college, has a budding acting passion/hobby/career, attends DS conferences, is starting some job training program(s). My wife and I have just recently retired. My daughter now has “people.” We are her “people.” We chauffeur, we cajole, we counsel, we manage, we… so yeah. That’s how we manage our time.

@aamefford thank you for the little glimpse into your daily life. You are amazing dedicated parents!

I am just trying to be proactive. I have a feeling I might not get job as soon as I would like. I don’t want to slip down any rabbit hole soon.

Honestly, I don’t manage my time. For me, that was kind of the point of retiring.
I do exercise everyday: 2-3 different things. I pay bills once or twice a week. I get groceries every few days.
And travel. Some years (like this one) a lot.
Basically, what I want when I want.

I am the type of person that needs a schedule. As soon as I wake up I write my daily list of things to do. I honestly don’t know how to relax. I need to be moving just like a shark to stay alive.

I think I am going to volunteer for the literacy program for immigrants. I have always loved reading and learning new words. The local library has this programme.

The neighbour that lived beside us couldn’t read nor write. I can’t imagine navigating my way through this world this way.

I stay busy, but not on a daily schedule. If the weather sucks, I do something else.
I did volunteer on a schedule, because that worked best for all involved - built 49 Habitat homes, so very satisfying

That’s amazing. I am going to check into that as well.

You need a battery powered (I refused to call them “solar generators” because they are NOT generators, they are storage systems) system like an Ecoflow Delta 3 (2 is now on huge sale as last years model). That should power your amp for hours. Might even be able to get away with a smaller one.

I try to keep myself busy. But I find it doesn't take much anymore to keep me busy. Sadly, I often catch myself stuck at this silly keyboard and time flies by ridiculously fast. Then I sometimes wonder where the damn morning/day went. when I was working I had to plan things meticulously and follow my plan. Of course things always crop up that distract and deviate you, but that's life, I just rolled with it. Now I find that it isn't critical for running a business, I can shrug it off and say screw it. Sometimes that's good for the head and soul, no stress. But it can waste time too.
So I try and compartmentalize my daily list of things and do all I can to complete each job or activity. Otherwise like when I ran out of time after work, s**t just didn't get done and I had/have all these semi-completed projects sitting there. A daily regimen and discipline still applies.
But it's a helluva lot more fun now!🤣

I'm not retired yet, but I can't wait to be able to answer your question!

I will say: I have dreamt of retirement for many years, but that's what happens when you have a JOB instead of a passion. Since I couldn't become a professional musician, nothing else I could do with my life (to make a living) would satisfy, it's "just a job". So I can't wait to be done with it (another 10 years).

I always thought "I'm going to love doing NOTHING!!!" But recent health issues have made me realize, I have to keep moving. You stop moving, you die. I'll figure it out. Luckily I love walking, running, hiking, and biking. I also mow my own grass and do all of the maintenance on my house. I'm sure I'll be busy ENOUGH.

Been meaning to reply to this. I spent 20 years working in adult basic education.

I think you’ll find the participants to be inspiring. Whether immigrant or not, they all share a desire to improve their lives through education. You’ll meet all kinds of people, from so many different backgrounds. So many different stories and experiences. A lot of kindness, empathy, and gratitude.

Volunteers in programs like that are gold. You don’t need particular skills—often just being a conversation partner is enough. You’ll find yourself thinking about the idioms that we use in our everyday language. You’ll feel an immense sense of contribution and appreciation.

Of all the things I’ve seen in my 48 years, none has been more courageous than one adult walking up to another and saying that they can’t read. That kind of vulnerability and willingness to expose something that they’ve been hiding—something that has dominated and greatly determined the course of their lives—that’s an incredibly brave thing to do. The sense of pride and accomplishment that a student feels when they begin to see that they can overcome that is incredible.

For immigrants, it’s so often about two things: Being able to get a better job or being able to communicate with younger family members who only speak English. Both are wonderful, admirable causes.
