Random. No more or less

I was a commercial pilot, (but not on anything super sexy as far as aircraft go) flew piston singles and twins with crew changes and freight hops into remote strips in the oilfield, as well as charter flights for clients needing to fly for meetings and conferences. Owned my own Cessna 172 for 12 years, and did sightseeing flights, aerial photographers and of course my own travel when it was faster and more fun than driving. I flew Cessna 206 single engine and Piper Navajo twins for the local charter company. There were also turbo-prop birds (King Air and Twin Otter) but I never did get to be the driver on either of those. I held a Group 1 IFR/ATPL (multi-engine instrument rated) on the piston powered planes, never did get turbine certified but I did do a few hops in a King Air 100 just for fun with a friend that flew for another charter. I assisted him with his training for a single pilot operations check ride and I got to ride along with him for his flight test. I flew the plane back from Edmonton Intl (CYEG) to City Center (CYXD) which lasted a whole 8 minutes with me at the controls from taxi to touch down. You don't even get the plane leveled out after t/o and you have to start configuring for landing it's such a short hop! But at least I have that to look at in my log book. Flying can be a real blast, but it isn't nearly as romantic as it might appear when it's a job and the weather s**ts on you in the middle of BF nowhere. Wages on small ops are the pits as well, which is why I stopped doing it, would have starved if I had to live on it. But I'm happy to have done it. My plane is still local and I fly occasionally with the gal that bought it. She hosts a fly-in every fall, it was just this past Sunday, good to see some of my old flying buddies and meet some new ones every year.
What a history you have. What an amazing accomplishment and it sounds like you’re passionate about flying. Amazing memories that you have collected over the years.

I met a guy at the beach the other day and started talking to him. I found out that he is a captain at one of the major airlines. He looked super young to be a captain. I just had to ask how old he was. He was 37. So young and so smart. Just a joy to talk to. A Very interesting young man.

Aaaaaand..... then I start seeing news about all the poor souls in NC/TN, and what they've lost, and I feel guilty about bitching about my "bad day".... :(
It's BAD brother. We didn't go through any of it while on route to the beach, but were within an hour of some of the worst of it, and have been to a few of those towns in TN and NC that were just obliterated. You'd swear they were on the coast and got hit but the hurricane fresh off the ocean, but it was flooding, not 120mph winds, that wiped them out. One whole city is between two mountains and the whole city, EVERY building was just ripped away and washed downstream. Total devastation. 😢

We have Starbucks too! You need a bank loan just to get a frigging coffee. My coffee there is $5
Starbucks is overpriced, over roasted junk. They make it strong. They over roast the beans to hide the fact that they aren't good beans. Enough of that. LOL but yeah, don't waste your money on Starbucks. It's a fad to the extreme.

I always have at least 5-10 types of coffee. I buy all green beans and roast my own, so our coffee is ALWAYS fresh. Fresh ground is always better than pre ground, and fresh roasted and fresh ground is always better than anything else. I roast 3 times per week or so and we never grind anything until it's being brewed. There are lots of kinds of coffees out there, but no matter what kind you like, there is no question that fresh is better, and it's hard to buy roasted coffee and get it really fresh. If you don't grind your own beans, even if it's fresh roasted it losses flavor as soon as you grind it if not used immediately. While coffee can be very good up to a couple months, it is best in the first 15 days or so after roast. They are all a bit different, but most are best between 3 days and 10 days after roast.

I just knew you were a coffee nerd(connoisseur) lol

There’s a new beverage out that is really hot atm and that’s Coke snd coffee cream. I think it’s called Swish. I don’t think my stomach could go for that. And apparently the cream doesn’t curdle.

I really like coffee in the morning but now it’s hot chocolate and tea seasonal well. Something different for the taste buds too.

I am making a Bailey’s hot chocolate. It’s just favoured cream that you add. Mmmmmm.

We grind our own coffee at home. Just in the process of buying one for the cottage. The perfect coffee is a thing at the cottage for hubby. He has so many “holy grail” moments.
We also get ground coffee as little gifts from ppl. They know how nerdy my hubby and son are about coffee.

For me, Starbucks has only one purpose: a place for the "posers" on their shiny and seldom actually ridden motorcycles to hang out on a Sunday morning and try and impress the non-motorcycle riding public. And they have about as much taste in bean quality as they have actual riding experience.
Depth in the checkbook/wallet and creases in the riding gear doesn't carry any weight in my world. Right up there with cosmetic relic-ing on a new guitar actually.🤨
Sorry for the outburst...sensitive topic for me.

I held back... too many friends that like it. And, when I first tried to get into "better coffee" naturally that's where I went. Then I started reading and seeing how badly the real coffee snobs slammed them so I bought from a few local roasters and immediately saw exactly what they were talking about. I was taking strong and dark roasted as what better coffee was. Now I NEVER roast to 2nd crack unless I'm doing one small batch just for French Press.

In fact, here's another random item on the topic... when I was drinking all over roasted beans from Starbucks, French Press was our favorite way to make coffee. I went out and bought two Espro's after having 2-3 other ones... Then when I started roasting, I quickly verified what I read about tasting the "beans more than the roast" by roasting lighter (more medium) and immediately could taste big differences in every kind of coffee I roasted. But, it also made French Press no longer my favorite. Hario V60 pourovers are our favorite. Aeropress is second (BEST for flash brew iced coffee!!!) and we have two Mocamaster coffee pots for morning coffee.

Making a gourmet hot chocolate. I went out and bought lactose whipped cream. Lactose free does not belong with the words “whipped creme” I just tasted it. It’s so greasy and horrible.
What a way to wreck a dream. Hot chocolate NO whipped cream. But lactose free chocolate chips lactose free milk and a drizzle of caramel sauce.

I am already so fed up with this lactose and gluten free crap. No choice though.

I got so fed up with reading so much about the ill effects of eating, drinking, smoking, vaping, and everything else that causes human imbalance...I finally decided to give up reading.😫
I said this before many times. And I still follow it. Damn the torpedoes, I live my life, my way.😁

Me too! I am so sick of everything. I am living my life according to ME! I gave up on YouTube after this Diddy crap. I found Reddit which is just as addictive. So it’s back to square one, music. It’s Fear fest all October. Television has never been my thing but Fear fest is my hubbies fav month to watch all his beloved horror flicks.
I sort of have to live my life according to my doctor though. It’s all good though. I have never felt more alive and my energy levels are functioning so efficiently.

I do love reading. Just reading about the brain again and how it functions in our everyday life.

Happy early thanksgiving to all my Canadian counterparts.

Already starting to get everything ready for our family gathering with everyone tomorrow. It will be so nice to have a day to enjoy each others company. There’s going to be 6 doggos at this as well. This should be lots of fun.

Eat drink and be very Merry.

Honestly I am reflecting on all the amazing things in my life and what my future holds for me(next April) I am living for that day.

Saturday, date night. Got a beautiful hot chocolate and a tea for hubby. We went and sat down at the lake for an hour last night. It was really cold. I wore my long winter coat. The water, unbelievably cold. Last week
it was still quite warm to the touch.

Yes, Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving all! Have some of the in-laws coming for supper tonight, my brother is being looked after by his late wife's family. Doing a turkey on the BBQ and b-in-law is bringing a smoked beef tri-tip, s-i-l bringing a brussells sprout casserole, and we're doing stuffing, sour leaf cabbage rolls and perogies and of course stuffing. I whipped up a home grown/home made (by me) apple crisp for dessert.
Now I have to go out and blow more leaves off the deck and sidewalk...I thought that horrendous wind on Wednesday would have finished them off but nooooo...hauled three loads out to the bush in the tub trailer behind the SxS yesterday. Yeesh, still at least two more to go now. Love the trees during the summer but not so great in the fall. Thank goodness for gutter guards!

Now that right there looks like what a deep, cleansing breath feels like.
