Yup. I always said I wanted out before 65. I’ll be out about 10 weeks before I turn 65, so cutting it close. I work until Friday, then vacation and holidays until 01/02/25, when I turn in my laptop and phone. Then vacation until 02/01/24. Which is my official first day retired. Yay!

Thu, Dec 21, 2023, 10:27 PM ET is the winter solstice this year. It is sometimes on the 20th of Dec, other times it is on the 22nd of December (and if you live in Europe or Asia, it will be on the 22nd this year as the solstice does not recognize time zones nor does the phases of the moon), but it is usually on Dec 21 each year. Shortest day of the year and celebrations have been happening on and around that day for millennia prior to religions latching on to it as their special day/time of year!

My bet stands! Thanks for your efforts in putting together this pool on a topic that has a few of us on the edge of our seats ;~)) If I can take a second bet in the pool, I am going to go with infinity (also not on your calendar I am sure)!!!

Eh, rolling, filling, cooking with, whatever ended for me 35 or so years ago. About the time some damn fool bred the “Arkansas Polio Weed” and the “KGB”, otherwise known as the “The pot that killed Bruce Lee”. Reality is a big enough trip lately anyway! Thanks for the wishes!

I was referring to your musical output (seriously)! Man, I can't believe your mind is still in the gutter after "quitting" 35 years ago!! I get it now though why you thought what you did after reading my post. Funny how that happens ;~))

lol, I’m the poster child for arrested development. A 16 year old personality in a 64 year old body.

Edit - my dad is the same way except 86 year old body. When my lovely and ever patient wife met my dad, her first comment was “wow - this explains so much!”

Solstice = darkest (shortest daylight) day of the year! That calls for a party, because tomorrow the days START GETTING LONGER!! WOOHOO!!

It's not the cold of winter that gets me, it's the darkness. (and as much as I love the long days of summer, I HATE HATE HATE the heat and humidity)

Funny thing about the solstice, I just went through a week of sunrise/sunset times. All within one second of each other on both ways. But the total hours of daylight does NOT cumulatively change one iota. Seems to be some confusion here Orley...:confused:
Suffice to say in my neck of the woods it's going to be friggin' dark early and won't get light until well into the mid morning hours until the end or at least later part of January. That my friends does NOT change.:(

I didn’t really want to say anything but I am having seizures now. I had 3 back to back at wedding. And one at work yesterday. I blacked out and fell down a flight of stairs. But I got up what seemed like instantly and said I was okay. I was out longer then what I thought. I am seeing a neurologist. He has series of specific tests lined up for me in the New Year. Finger’s definitely crossed as well as toes!
