Why do some people cover their serial numbers when they post their guitars and some don't?

I get it if it is like your license plate on your car, or address on a piece of mail....but if you own your guitar and have the paperwork with the serial on it (most people I know with PRS guitars covet that case candy) then why do people care to cover it?
