Question for the PTC - Filling the Tremelo Cavity

I have seen photos of the PTC fill irregular shaped tremolo cavities with epoxy, I also seen the picture of Hans guitar getting the pickup hole filled with another piece of Korina. My question is how does this affect the sound of the guitar or is it negligible?
