Ok so I have a new used (non-PRS) axe, 2 pickup 1v 1t 3-way in which someone has performed a "0.001 capacitor/150K resistor parallel volume mod on a 3-way toggle."

For dummies like me, what the bloody heck IS that, and what purpose would it serve.

I would post a pic but judging by the condition of the solder splatters all over, the previous owner may have been blind, alcoholic, a toddler, or maybe even a blind alcoholic toddler. No offense meant to any of those three groups, especially if you fall into one of those groups.

I'm very good at guitar wiring, even when drunk. In fact I impressed myself a few weeks ago, I'd had enough to drink one night that I had nearly forgotten I did the work. The next day, everything was wired up correctly.

So, the person sounds confused to me. You can wire up a cap and resistor in parallel across the input and output of a volume pot and get the same effect as PRS gets just using a 180pf cap wired up the same way, like they do from the factory. I don't fully understand why some people use a cap and resistor and others just use a cap. They seem to do the same thing. Anyway, that doesn't have anything to do with the 3 way switch.

I suppose you could run leads from the volume pot to a 3 way switch, and then put the cap/resistor there, and then be able to switch between a naked volume pot and one that's had the volume kit installed. Why the hell would you want to do that, I don't know, unless you were bored and had too much time on your hands and wanted to see how much a volume kit changes the overall tone of the guitar.

Thanks John...so confusion aside, this mod is basically making sure one does not lose treble as the volume is rolled down?
