Quick question here regarding the McCarty Trem model. I realize that the standard McCarty (non-trem wrap around bridge) has a slightly thinner headstock and utilizes vintage style tuners. My question is... Does the McCarty Trem have a headstock with standard thickness because it has locking tuners?

Thanks,

Great question!!!!!!!! Can anybody answer this? I would love to get prs lockers on my McCarty. When I called PRS they said "you don't need lockers with a fixed bridge!" But my cu22 came stock with fixed bridge AND lockers. I have aftermarket lockers on my McCarty but I hate them. Need tool to lock them and I'm going to slip and scratch the piss out of my headstock one of these times.

Phase 2 and 3 lockers only require finger and thumb to lock string. I really don't want to drill holes in my headstock either.

OK, I'm done complaining.

I only buy piss-free headstocks.

That's too funny. Like calling GM to see if you could fit a blower under the hood of a new vette and them saying..."you don't need a blower with the new corvette".

Maybe a person just likes lockers. Maybe they like the faster string changes lockers enable. Maybe they just FEEL like having lockers.
The question wasn't...does it NEED lockers...it was "do they FIT?".

I wonder if a McCarty will accommodate a 408 pickup? Or do the McCarty Trems even "need" different pickups? lol.

A McCarty Trem model will have a thicker headstock than a traditional McCarty model. I believe Gotoh makes a locking tuner that will fit, but I don't know the model number. Phase II's won't work. Phase III's will work but require some alterations to the diameter of the hole and the shaft will be slightly longer than the original tuners changing the angle the strings cross over the nut.
