Quick question to those who have ordered PS's.....

Say I just want a model that is no longer offered with NO crazy options.

I'll use the Chris Henderson Sig Model as an example.

Basically it's a SC-250 with 3 pickups, rosewood fretboard, bird inlays.

So...would I get totally hammered with PS pricing??

I mean...it's a pattern that they have in their CNC computer, it's not out of date, I'm not asking for something weird like coco-culu-cowabunga wood, blah blah blah....I don't even care for the PS "eagle" on the headstock. Just plain sig logo is fine...

One would think it would be a "regular price" guitar.

Am I dreaming here?

Please PM me with your private stock experience.

Thanks!!

Tony

I haven't bought a PS, but you're dreaming. You'll pay PS for what is essentially a core model.

The PS would be run as a separate business unit to the core/production stuff, the woods are "better", finishes are usually not production colours, higher overheads, more input from top staff, PRSh playing the instrument, much more service, lower turnover etc.

If you want a SC-250 with 3 pickups, you're better off finding either a Chris Henderson, or a nice SC-250 and send it to the PTC for a third pickup. If you want new, get a SC-245 (if you can handle 1/2" less scale) and send it to the PTC for the third pickup.

BTW I think all guitars should have 3 pickups so I really wanna see you do either option (including PS)

Without taking this too far into a specific price discussion, I think $10k is the absolute minimum list price (with dealers obviously able to go better).

What you're basically paying for is time and expertise of their highest-paid luthiery team. In the grand scheme of things the materials, even when exotic, make up a very small percentage of the overall cost of the instrument. Prices go up as things get more complicated, obviously.

So in short, yeah, it'll still cost ya!

My experience has been if PRS has a model programmed that they don't have to reprogram, there is no up charge to make it regardless if it is in the current line up or not. That said, you're still going to pay for a private stock.

However, it f you have some guitars that don't see much playing time, this could be an opportunity to give someone else a chance to enjoy them and get what you really want. Brian at Brian's guitars made it possible for me to go PS like that.

Thanks for the advice.

My initial thought echoed basically what Justmund said. But I wanted to throw it out there.

Again, using the idea of a Henderson...just find a regular Singlecut and have the PTC mod the hell out of it.

10k is way beyond anything I could afford. But a grand here or there for improvements along the way is easier.

Thanks all.....

Tony
