I've been curious about the nut on my McCarty, I've never seen one like this.

Yeah, bought second hand. Anyone have any experience with these nuts? I've been having a bit of an issue with tuning stability

I have one on my 305
There is nothing wrong with them but that would not be what came on that guitar
If your having issues I would just change it out

Tuning stability should be great, the nut shouldn't contribute to any instability, unless of course you're using anything heavier than 10s?

What tuners are they? They kinda look like phase IIs?

I use 11s and the tuners are those Gibson-esque tulip tuners.

I've got Tusq on a couple of mine. Love them. If you're not going bone, I'd go Tusq

The nut slots need need to be widened for 11's. Take it in and have that done first. New nut should not be necessary. I'd put new strings on too, the plain strings look old. Tuning stability decreases with string age.

Yeah I'm aware, strings are not much more than a month old though. Even new, they were iffy, I'll look into a nut widening, I would have thought that would have been done when I had it set up

What, if I might ask, is the year when the McCarthy was made? Mine was made in 2000 and I upgraded to the 'new material' PRS nut.
