Question about core model backs

Hello everyone, I am relatively new to the world of PRS, so please forgive me if I am asking a silly question.

I am considering treating myself to a new guitar and I have narrowed it down to the following:

Special Semi-Hollow or Hollowbody II Piezo, regardless of which I choose I would like it to be with a gold top.

I was wondering if someone could explain to me what colour the back would be?

I have tried searching on google for examples of a gold top Special and both had very different colour backs; what determines the colour?

Cheers!

I think it varies by model. Honestly, I have no clue? Seems as if gold top models usually have a stained mahogany (back/neck) finish. Most of the GT I've seen are anyway. But, some of the other folks here might be more sure...mine is a minimally educated guess at best. Happy hunting!!

The top and back of a Hollowbody II are generally the same colour.
Semi hollow is generally black or natural - but a lot of semi hollows are wood library, so the dealer might do something different.
Thanks Veinbuster!

My next question is what exactly is Wood Library? I have seen Artist and Top 10 terms addressed in the PRS FAQs, but I did not see anything about Wood Library.

Cheers!

It’s a level of wood figuring or finish. If I am remembering this right, the levels go, low to high: Standard, 10 Top, Artist, Wood Library, Private Stock. Somewhere in there are also Limited or Special Editions that are short-run configurations.

Thanks for the info,e veryone! I suppose it wont really be an issue for me since I'm looking for a gold top and I guess they are just standard woods. But always good to know

Generally, among the "standard/core" PRS options, a gold-top guitar will have the "natural" (transparent, wood-colored) back & neck. The Hollowbody II, however, has "two tops" (one on front, and one on back), so I imagine you might end up with gold on the back, too--and maybe even on the sides/edges?

I must admit a gold back and sided guitat might be a bit too much. It's a shame that Trampas Green seems to have vanished from their website since I perhaps would have considered a hollowbody in that colour.

Gold Top back colors vary greatly. It depends on the model, the year, the dealer run, the feeling the finisher has that day, who knows. My all time favorite GT back color is the dark tobacco stain in Exhibit C on that hot DGT. But any GT gets a thumbs up from me.

exhibit B... incredible!

Wood Library lets dealers pick and choose among options that don't exist on standard models. For example, recently a dealer had a run of McCartys with a tremolo (or you can call it a vibrato or a whammy bar). I snapped one up while I could. You can find colors that aren't available on standard models as well.

There are WL runs that are Artist packages, or 10 tops. They aren't quite up to the level of PS models (the PS models are even more phenomenal in the amount of handwork and customization, but the WL are still very nice).
