PS Top Selection

Eric C. of Willcutt's was picking out some tops for my new PRS. Here are the final contenders. I made my selection, what would you have picked?

#5, for sure. I'm a sucker for one-piece tops, and that has an awesome fan-flame going.

I think top #2 is the pick of the litter, but much depends on the stain.

#4 is what I would choose, but #2 looks interesting if you want more of a burl look.

#4 is pretty tight and classic, but #5 is really unique. It gets my vote.

Pretty unique flame that radiates from one side to the other at a cool angle

#5 has a different direction, that's not something you see everyday.

I ended up going with top #1. The color will be key for this top. I originally thought the color in the link below (borrowed from Pete Dale) but that might not work. The PRS rep. suggested that once the board is cut, it may be easier to revisit the color.

Thx - it could be hit or miss. The color choice will be crucial - Any tried or true suggestions would be great.

I dunno…..I always like the warm colors like some sort of yellow or 'black gold', but I own a PS piece with some crazy figuring thats done in a warm gray color they call 'graphite' that looks killer.

Depends on the color you will choose. #1 has a lot of potential.

Colour will affect it to some degree, but I'd still do top 1 with almost any colour. Just love that look, it's more unique than the other tops and although it's similar to 2 it looks slightly more contrasty which I think will benefit the guitar.

I just feel I've seen 3-5 on a million guitars before and will again in the future...
