I gotta admit, it took me a while to figure out what the 'i' stood for too. I had never seen that anywhere before and sometimes I would think...is this more of apples influence adding the i to everything 
Personally I always just refer to them as fiddles or by the model. I'm a fast typer so no need to be lazy and abbreviate everything.
