Hi everyone... Are the wide thin and wide fat necks on a PRS wider than les Paul and fender necks.... Or do they simply call it a wide neck :/?

Also, is it true that the Santana neck is PRS's thickest neck non custom?

Thank you

Just got a wide fat custom 22 and it's not as wide as my 71 les paul but in girths it is. More like a 59 feel wide ways.

It's hard to make general statements about these kinds of things, because there are always exceptions to the rules. However, IMO you are correct that generally the PRS fretboard measured a little wider than what was common on Fender and Les Pauls. However the 2015 Les Paul line has widened their fretboards to about the same as where PRS generally is.

And as far as thickness, again I agree that the thickest neck by far I've ever played was on a Santana II some years ago. That thing was a freaking baseball bat. It wasn't just thick, it's shoulders were very full. YMMV and all that.

Wider than most Fender necks for sure. Pattern Regular correlates to the Fender feel more IMO.

Santana is the largest neck carve. It is 1 21/32" at the nut, but is beefier on the back from what I remember. LP(2015) and PRS wide/pattern are 1 11/16". A PRS regular neck is 1 21/32" by comparison.

As far as width, the Wide-Fat on my SE 245 is a touch wider than my Les Paul and right about the same width as my SG. The LP is very slightly thicker and the SG is very slightly thinner. Sorry I don't have the exact dimensions, but the point is that it is very easy to transition from one to the other without them feeling weird.

It is wider than any Fender I have owned, but the '66 Strat I recently sold had a much thicker neck with a relatively narrow fretboard that make it feel almost round in your hand.

Thanks everyone... I have a les Paul 1960 classic reissue, so I'd assume the prs tapers to a wider fretboard toward the heel? That's wide!

A lot of differing information in this thread. These are the width numbers I've found upon research:

PRS pattern regular : 1.656"
PRS pattern thin / wide thin or pattern/wide fat or Les Paul pre 2015: 1.688"
Les Paul 2015 : 1.795"

As for my personal experience, with the models I own (or I owned), this is what I found about fretboard width:

Ibanez > PRS Wide Thin = Music Man JP > Gibson 60's slim taper > Fender

The PRS, the JP and the Gibson are really close, though. :proud:

To my hand MY Les Paul neck is a touch wider ( very small bit ) than any of my PRSi necks its a 60s from 1993

Some metric measurements for the 1st fret width

PRS Custom 24 43.36mm
PRS SC 58 43.25mm
Gibson Custom 43.00mm 60s neck
Gibson Custom 68 42.00mm 50s neck
Momose LP 44.49mm

You are talking about the width at the nut, aren't you? Most Fender necks are wider than Gibson necks at high frets.
