Hi,

I have the opportunity to purchase used 2007 Paul Reed Smith Singlecut Standard Satin in all mahogany option (vintage cherry colour). It's kind of hard for me to find any proper information about said guitar. All I've managed to find is basic specs and the fact that this type of Singlecut was in production only for about a year. I've also found one shitty youtube video and one old listing with some info and pics of a similar guitar.

I have a 2008 PRS SE Singlecut and absolutely love it so having a Core version of the guitar is a dream to me. I mean in this case sadly without all that fancy glossy maple top design but the quality of the instrument should be more important than looks, right? :) As this is a kind of non-standard version of Singlecut I'm still not quite sure if I should pull the trigger on that purchase. I don't have the option to try the guitar out myself before purchasing it as the guy selling it lives some 5 hours drive from me and I unfortunately don't have the time for that trip.

So I guess what I'd like to ask is if anyone have any information on this guitar, like if the absence of maple top has any (negative) effect to the sound, if there are some known production downsides for the 2006/2007 all mahogany series, anything really, any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Short answer - you should have bought it already!

I own a 2005 Satin Standard 24 (not a singlecut though) and it is an absolutely amazing guitar. My Sig Ltd which has a maple cap and more vintage voiced humbuckers is much brighter. I would say my Satin Standard has a more mid-focused sound which comes through both acoustically and amped (HFS/VB pickups).

I think these guitars are insane value for money and completely overlooked by most. Considering their price, you could easily swap pickups to get the exact sound you want and still have an absolute bargain.

Sonically your 2008 SE SC is all hog with a maple veneer (no impact on tone) so they should be in the same tonal space, just with the upgrade to US core quality woods, hardware and pickups. I think you will like it quite a bit!

100% buy that thing before someone else does. It will never let you down.

I have an "all hog" double cut McCarty that I got off Craigslist recently for like 1300, and it's tied for favorites in my collection with the Private Stock.

Thanks for the encouraging replies, guys! Just please tell me what the hell does "all hog" mean :D.

Ahh, I see, and there was I hopelessly googling the phrase, haha.
Sorry about that! :) I’m used to saying “all hog rocker” for Mahogany- yeah, I’m pretty lazy in my middle age ;)

I have a 2007 Zo6 guitar that is basically an all hog, Got it just for fun to match a car and it was at GC for a steal since of course, having been there it was scuffed some. Turned out to be one of my favorites and I still play it out. Still have it. Sustain like mad and great overall tone.
