Enjoying my recent Silver Sky, but am wondering if there might be a decent locking tuner upgrade that might be a drop-in replacement for the current vintage locking tuners. Thinking either a PRS, Gotoh or Kluson locking brand would work. Anyone with experience replacing their core Silver Sky locking tuners?

I would think you'll want a vintage locking tuner to cover the footprint of the original tuners. Since you don't like the PRS, I would suggest kluson or Gotoh. I'm not sure what's the difference between the silver sky locking tuners and PRS vintage locking tuners. Maybe different posts size? I think kluson locking g mount revolution are excellent, but it will completely change the look of the back of the headstock. And I'm not too sure if its a drop in replacement on the Silvery sky like they are on the McCarty lineup

I would think Phase 3s would fit , I will check when I get my new set for my Fiore tommorow
PRS Customer Service had the answer. A few emails and a call to them solved the problem. Yes, PRS PRS Vintage Style Locking or Non-Locking tuners, or Phase III's are direct replacements. The peg hole size is 9.5mm (read: 25/64") ID which would require a separate 9.5mm OD / ? ID bushing if something else were used. The Phase III's would reveal the footprint of the old tuners. The Vintage Style would cover the footprint correctly.

The Silver Sky Core/SE tuners are vintage-style PRS with ~9.5mm OD tuning pegs. I've tried finding comparable Gotoh tuners to no avail, but they would still likely require insert bushings to fit the peg hole. Klusons are more difficult to find online, though they exist.
Like you, I don't know that the old-style vintage McCarty tuners would work.
Am hoping to find something more robust and esthetically pleasing than the current core/SE SS tuners. Either Gotoh, Kluson, or PRS. Heck, Grovers if possible...

Verified with PRS Customer Service: PRS Vintage-Style Locking (or Non-Locking) Tuners are direct replacements that do not require any modification.
