I get that people like Seymour Duncan’s, but considering Paul has only made more types of pickups over the years...why not a P90 of his own without hum? Why rely on Seymour Duncan’s when all the other PRS models have PRS designed pickups?

Paul, please give us P90s designed by PRS with no hum!

The SD's they used in past generations were PRSH's tweaked P90's but were made by SD. The past hum cancelling P90've heard, lacked some of the punch. I don't mind straight up P90's. If the power is clean I usually don't hear much hum.

I’ve heard the mojotone quiet coil p90’s are quite good and have been meaning to try them. I put stacked sd p90’s in a Les Paul and they were quiet, but didn’t sound amazing like p90’s anymore, just sort of meh.

I got Harmonic Design P 90s. As long as I keep my switch in the middle position, there is no hum.

my experience with stacked P90's is they are very sterile and lack any character of a P90. P90's are great and worth dealing with a little hum, try a little less gain.

If pickups could be made that sound exactly like the SD Antiquities in the 594 Soapbar Limited series, without hum, they’d have a million seller on their hands. Like others here, I’ve had several “sounds just like/without hum” P90s and they were all “sounds nice clean, sounds like a P90 with no soul distorted” propositions. I’ll take the hum.

By the way... even my humbuckers hum a bit on certain rigs/power.

Ilitch Chiliachki cracked the code on that years ago. His noise cancelling systems work extremely well without messing up the tone.

PRS haven't exactly been innovating in terms of noise reduction the last decade or so. The original guitars had shielding and every position was hum cancelling. Nowadays they're very focused on true single coil tones and don't bother with shielding. One look at their backlog says the market approves.

Inherent problem...my guess is, you cannot have great single coil tone, AND no hum...Big P-90 fan here...Love 'em.
Same goes for straight single coils...Silver Sky,DC-3, 305, etc...Paul got pretty close with the NF-3's (my guess is that was his plan???)
The neck Vela PU kills...but when solo'ed...adds some hum...NOT much, but some.

Actually, Leo F3nder got pretty close with the G&L staggered single coils. (in older Commanche's , and some S and T-style guitars)

A hum-cancelling P90 isn't a P90. Same goes for a hum-cancelling Strat or Tele pickup. There's always going to be a sonic tradeoff due to the very nature of their design. That said, Fralin, Mojotone and others already have decent versions of these on the market, so given how few PRSi actually have P90s these days, it's not really worth the time/effort of R&D.

PRS DID HAVE THEM. They were called Fralin dominos. They’re absolutely amazing sounding. They desperately need to come back, maybe on a semi- hollow 594. I have them on a 92 EG lll.
