PRS Serial Number Model Question

Hi folks,

I have a question. I am trying to figure out which model and year of PRS I have. I've had this guitar since the 90s and bought it from a friend. I THINK it's a 1987 Cherry. The serial number is 7 2288. According to the PRS site, it could either be a 1987 or a 1990 but how do I tell? It's mahogany with quarter moons and a Brazilian rosewood fretboard. Does anyone know how much it may be worth as well?
Thanks so much!

Hi JW, there's a second part to that chart labeled "Approximate Serial Numbers" just below the header "Set-Neck Serial Numbers." Taking the -2288 and referencing that second chart, it looks like a 1987.

The description sounds like a Standard 24. No idea on the present market value! Most 80s hair products were super flammable, so I'd be careful playing that axe near open flames though. ;-)

IMO, if it is an 87 Standard, original, and in very good condition with original case, you could ask around $3000 for it, more if it had birds. A Cu24 would ask at around $5000 for comparison. What they would sell for depends on many things. This is just what I see for ask prices as I surf. I am usually not in the vintage market though so I am little tempted.

Had a guitar freak friend look at it today and it's definitely a 1987 mahogany trans red 24 fret with quarter moons. The fret board is Brazilian rosewood. It's got a volume knob & a pick switch knob as well as the 'sweet switch' on it. Thanks for your help!
