A while ago that ~2-3mm tall plastic spacer/ring between the tuner key and the peg broke and ever since that incident it's nigh on impossible to keep it tuned properly since there is no resistance when tuning.

I've looked high and low for replacements since I don't want to replace the tuners (can't afford to). They're just tiny plastic spacers that create tension (I think). How do I fix this in an easy way (I've seen a second spacer with a crack and I'd ideally want to replace them all) that doesn't cost me an exorbitant amount of money?

isn’t this just a Teflon washer?

Probably. White, 2-3mm tall and sits around the peg between the key and tuner assembly. They need to be the exact right size as the original ones on the tuners. If I could find out the specs (I don't have a proper measuring tool) I could shop around for the right thing. I did find this on ebay where you can specify inside and outside diameter. Can't post links but the title for one particular item is "
YOU CHOOSE THE SIZE 1/8" Teflon PTFE Washer Spacer Low Friction Thrust Bearing".

Thanks for mentioning Teflon, it led me in the right direction.
