PRS SE Custom 24 tone pull push knob too loose

Hi everyone,

I have just bought a new PRS SE Custom 24 and I'm delighted with the sound, feeling, action and look of my guitar.

However I feel the tone pull push knob much more easier to turn than the volume one.

Is it normal or is this a sympton of future problems? If it is not normal, can I tighten the knob by myself or I have to claim to the guitar shop?

Thank you very much and regards.
I noticed that too with mine.

Hi, I received my Custom 24 and its tone dial has very little resistance too - especially compared to the volume dial. The volume dial feels really good to turn but the tone dial seems to lack the same quality feel. Is there a way of increasing the resistance so they are the same? I read sergiodeblanc's post but I wouldn't have thought you could swap the volume pot with the the push/pull style tone pot but I am happy for suggestions.
This is an old thread and I just got to be a member here but D'addario has a like felt type washer that goes over the shaft and sticks to the guitars body or underside of the pot that helps add some drag / tension to a pot..I used it on a Fishman Modern setup with just 1 single volume pot that was a push pull type from Fishman.

Hello, same status here : tone pot very loose, kind of alarming...
But in my case the actual problem is my tone pot is not a pot, but an ON/OFF switch.
Nothing happens from 10 to... 0, and only then high are absolutely cut.

So, not usable in the end! I intend to change the pot asap, even if the push-pull pots wiring frightens me a bit ^^ It may also fix the above 'loose pot' issue.

Any experience to share on this operation?
Thanks in advance

Oh, and btw : just got my PRS SE CUSTOM a few weeks ago :)
Very fun guitar to play, and great overall tone, including single coils ! I just find the pickups to be a little medium for my taste, not deep neither sharp enough for my taste... Just for being picky ;)

I just wonder if some feel the same?

It's kind of a bummer for me because I accidentally touch the knob with my arm when playing and I end up closing it a little bit by accident. If it was stiffer this wouldn't happen. It spins without any resistance, I wish there was a fix.

My S2 studio tone pot degraded to an on/off switch as well. PRS took it back and replaced it with what seems a much better pot. Kind of a bummer to have to ship the guitar back east for the fix, though PRS covered shipping both ways. I just hate trusting shipping companies with my stuff. All good now though. This is a 2021 or 2022 S2, so it has the “S” electronics like the SE’s.

Sounds about right for a push/pull based on my experience.

You may consider the CTS full-size push/pull pot. It is noticeably stiffer to turn. I have them in two guitars and they still have a little slop to them, but so do the Core push/pulls. I'm thinking that the wiggle is just what you get from push/pulls.

I have a DiMarzio push/pull in another guitar. They are very well-regarded pots, so I'll have to see how the feel compares to my others.
Beat me to it.
The CTS pots feel great.

sounds like the pot is bad. At first I thought the cap had come loose, but if that were the case, it would operate like a standard volume pot. Either way, I’d change it out.

I felt the same. I swapped mine for Duncan Custom at the bridge and Duncan ‘59 at the neck.
