Hi guys! Newly registered here.

I just got a new PRS SE Custom 24 (2020 Charcoal Burst) - my 2nd PRS after my 2017 Baritone SE. Was thinking about putting some Bareknuckle Black Dogs in it but I noticed on BKP's wiring diagram that they say that the neck pickup must be reversed.

I've had the BKP's in question in my Baritone previously with no issues, replacing the same pickups (85/15 S), although that guitar has a 3-way switch.

Is anyone able to tell me whether this warning applies to the 85/15 S pickups or are they referring to an older model of SE with the HFS/Vintage Bass?

Thanks in advance!

The HFS, if you wanted to preserve the wiring options, needed a matching neck pickup with the magnet polarity rotated. So, it could be referring to that requirement. If you install that pup and things don’t sound right, then pulling the magnet out and rotating it 180 degrees may be necessary. If you replace both pups, don’t worry about it.

Welcome!

That refers more to PRS guitars with a five-way switch. The 85/15 S set to my knowledge and in my experience are same polarity (i.e. typical pickup pair). SE pickups can vary, so you can check your guitar to be sure by seeing which wires are currently connected where.

And as long as the pickups are at least two-conductor, a polarity mismatch is no problem. You just flip the hot/ground leads on one pickup, then you can adjust your coil split options according to taste.
