I've just bought a PRS and I've been having a real job adjusting to it after playing strats all my life. Now that I'm getting used to it the biggest problem being the frets are so much closer together I like the guitar and the way it sounds. However up above the seventeenth fret it feels muted and chokes out I've. had a set up done which improved it a bit but I'm still not happy with it. What I'd like to know is this how these guitars play or do I need to go to another repairman for another setup I really like this guitar and would like to keep it but I would like to resolve this upper fret response. I don't have this problem with my strats so I think I have problem with the guitar thank you.

Well D sounds like you bought a Custom 24 , though no info on what PRS your inquiring about. If so which I suspect, it’s like comparing a Tele to a 335 completely different platform. It may take some time getting your mojo with it or it just may not be for you. As far as the guitar being the issue it’s not the manufacturer nor the guitar it’s the player. A setup won’t change the scale length. Again all this useless without the model you’re talking about. It’s certainly a challenge when you as you say play a particular guitar for a long time, everything else gets compared to it for good or for bad. Good luck on your chase.

It could also be a problem with the neck relief. I would check to see if it's at factory spec and if the truss rod needs to be adjusted as a starting point. PRS has good videos on how to do this on YouTube.
