The 3 way blade switch in my SE 24 Standard has got to be replaced. It wasn't too bad when I first got the guitar but now it's really acting up. Sometimes I'll go from one position to the other and there's no signal. Other times I'll go from the bridge position to the middle and only the bridge pickup comes through.

I tried contact cleaner a few times and while it helped at first this is not the case now.

Is the PRS replacement switch in the Accessories section of their website of a higher quality? Is the layout the same as far as where the wires go? Don't want to get a new switch and then end up guessing where the wires go.

I know there's other offerings such as from Stewmac so I'm open for suggestions.

Thanks for your time and have a great day!

Hi Mike J.

Interested in your topic as I find myself in exactly the same position. I have read somewhere that the original switch is quite pricy( £55 ish) if that’s accurate, and I’m not sure if it’s an upgrade on the one in the guitar. I think there are probably better quality replacements that are less money. I should have returned mine within the 12 month period of purchase as it was beginning to fail, but I foolishly did not. My fault for being lazy. I will talk to my local guy and see what he recommends.

Haven't gotten a new switch yet. However, the other day I took the back plate off from the control cavity and I sprayed the switch repeatedly with contact cleaner while moving the switch back and forth. Must have done it about 5 times. As of right now, it works fine!

We'll see how long it lasts. But if I have half a brain I should order a new switch soon. Never had this kind of trouble from any other switches in any of my other guitars.

CRL is the gold standard in quality for a three-way blade. Interestingly enough, the SE switch PRS sells in the accessory store is a CRL. I'd be pleasantly surprised if this is what comes stock in the SE guitars. I suspect it's an upgrade. It's the same as what you'd get from StewMac, but with the custom PRS tip. $18 is actually a nice price for that switch, in contrast to the ridiculous $60 they charge for the five-way.

The connections are mechanical, so another thing to try is to bend the switch contacts slightly so they make a better connection.

I’d be interested to hear how that lasts for you.I did the same , but mine proved not to be effective.I have another 24-08 , which so far is ok, but I’d swear it did it once, or was it me? We will see. These things can happen, and whilst is annoying, and obviously another cost to resolve, it’s a small issue when you compare the overall quality of the guitar itself.
