Hi Guys,

i am new here and new to PRS. I have a question, i want to buy a used PRS SC 250. But i don´t understand some things. In the case i can find the hangtags and documents, but they show a different serial Number and a different Model (PRS SC 245) (the seller can´t explain why). Maybe you can help me to identify this model and tell me if its a fake or a real PRS? It feels and plays great.

Yeah, it most certainly doesn’t look fake. I guess it’s a SC250 because of the truss rod cover.

Maybe the case and hang tag got swapped at the original retailer? IDK.

I think that too. The Guitar is to perfect to be a fake, maybe they made a mistake

Ask if the seller is willing to pull the pickups. You'll find the MODCAT there, and it will tell you all you need to know about what the guitar is. You'll need the MODCAT decoder elsewhere on the site, but it'll give it all to you.

The MODCAT should be on the case as well, but given the confusion about the hang tag, the safest bet is the pickup cavity MODCAT. Just in case the wrong case was grabbed during the original sale.

Email the serial number to customer service at PRS, they'll tell you what it is. It might to a 245 and someone switched the truss rod cover.

Wouldn't an indicator of 245 or 250 at that era also be the tuners?
Didn't the 245's have the klusons like McCarty?

Don't know if its in your hands, but you could always measure from the low E saddle to the nut...will give you your answer...24.5 or 25"

Guitar Center was/is notorious for just grabbing any old case whenever someone bought a brand new guitar. I don't know if they still do that or not because I don't shop at GC anymore.
