Hi everyone, I bought a prs s2 vela, fantastic guitar, at the bridge it has a ds01 and at the neck it has a type d, does anyone know what output the ds01 has? I would also like to change them, I play mainly hard rock, but also blues and soul, I would like pickups that have a good grit but that clean up very well, more pronounced on the lows and highs and a little less on the mediums... what do you recommend??

Sooooo, what do you want to change? What does the current PU lack? Because your discription can be applicable for the current PU

Before you change anything, make sure you ply with the pickup heights and pole pieces. Also look at changing the settings on your amp and possibly trying daddario NYXL’s or other bright strings. PRS pickups respond to tweaking more than any other ones I’ve tried in over 50 years of playing. I would also change the pots before the pickups if it’s an older vela.

Yeah, I don't give up on a pickup until I've moved it all around and then played with the pole piece heights! It's worth the effort!

Penso che in termini di altezza, ho fatto tutte le prove ma niente, a volte dal vivo con guadagno molto basso la chitarra fischia, il pickup non è microfonato, ho già fatto tutte le prove, è il pickup che non spinge

Things like "grit" can mean different things to different people, but to my way of thinking anyway, pickups themselves don't really have (or not have) "grit". Lower output pickups certainly don't drive the front end of amps as hard, so the "grittyness" that you get out of the amp, and where you are on the headroom curve changes how the amp responds to guitar volume and tone controls... In any case, you may want to throw a good clean boost in front of the amp and see if that floats your boat. It's not exactly the same thing as swapping pickups for something with a higher output, but that may actually be a good thing from what you are describing wanting. A strat, in my opinion, totally needs a clean boost into a JTM45 style amp for example. I don't know how hot the Vela picups are, but interestingly, I never noticed them being particularly low-output.

Plenty of juice in the original Vela pickups like I have!

I put a 5909 in my vela but you must determine if polarity on bridge pickup is reversed.

Mine was. I'm not 100% sure on this but it seems like early ones with the single coil neck PU was reversed but newer ones with narrowfield may not be

I completely agree. I got rid of a bunch of guitars, but the Vela stayed. To me, the Vela is particularly expressive in terms of how volume and tone controls work with an amp.

Every time someone says they aren't sure if they should buy an Archon because they're afraid that it can only do "metal" I repost this video! Probably a dozen times over the years.

I've got a question on this, if you don't mind. I've got a '21 Vela HB and am going to go to a MIni HB sized P90 in the neck and either a standard HB or a HB sized P90 in the bridge. Leaning towards 'Fralins on both counts. Do I need to be concerned with the reversed wiring at all?

You should have no problems. It’s the same brand. Getting multi leads will make it much simpler to future proof yourself in case you elect to exchange one of those pickups with a different brand

Thanks! That makes sense. I was afraid that I might have been over-simplifying things by thinking along those lines.
