Prs S2 standard push pull wiring

Hello,

I have a PRS S2 standard with 2 humbuckers, 3 way switch, push pull to split both humbuckers.

The coil split for the neck humbucker doesn't audibly make a difference, and I verified this by measuring the resistance across the output jack, and found it does not change at all when switching the push pull (it does change for the bridge pickup).

I can't find the exact diagram on the PRS website for this configuration, with the resistors going from the push pull to ground. Does anyone have the diagram I'm looking for so I can start getting to the bottom of it.

Thanks a mil,
Andrew

The one on the PRS site has the 5 way switch, which will used tapped pickup settings in some positions. What switching does yours have? You may need to look at a couple of different diagrams to put something together that matches your control layout.

Mine has a 3 way switch with 2 humbuckers. Position 1 is bridge pickup, middle position is both pickups, position 3 is neck pickup. Push pull splits both coils

Look up the schematic for the Custom 22. My custom 22 has that same control layout. I did add the resistors to mine. It is old enough that it is before PRS started using the resistors in them.

I took a quick look and the diagram they have out there now for the CU22 if one with the 5 way. The McCarty has what you are looking for. You can find that HERE.

I will probably need a little more information and possibly a picture if the inside of the wiring cavity.

The first question is are there the same number of wires coming out of the neck pickup as there are coming out of the bridge pickup? There should be a wire from the bridge pickup going to the switch. If these are both PRS pickups or at least from the same manufacturer the same color wire on the neck pickup should be the tap wire.

The next question is what do the poles on the switch look like? There should be 6 of them. PRS has bent the center two poles inward and soldered them together on some models during some years. Also are there any resistors soldered to the switching pot? If there is a resistor for the bridge and not one for the neck pickup you will probably want to put one in. It isn't necessary but it does affect how the split sounds.

Hi Jason, apologies for my delayed response.

There doesn't seem to be an intuitive way for me to upload images into these messages.

I'll begin with your second question:

The push pull switch has 6 poles. The 2 center poles are separately connected to ground via two separate resistors. The 2 bottom poles (furthest from the pot) are connected to nothing. For the two top poles (closest to the pot), the green/white wires from the neck pickup are connected to one and the red/black wires from the bridge are connected to the other.

To answer your first question:

The neck pickup has green/white wrapped wires going to the push pull, large black wire grounding off the push pull casing, and a black wire going to the 3 way switch.

The bridge pickup has red/black wrapped wires going to the push pull, large black wire grounding off the push pull casing, and a white wire going to the 3 way switch.

Thanks for your replies.

Kind Regards,
Andrew

Are these the stock pickups? The wire colors are a little different than what I was expecting but that could be that the S2 pickups are wired differently than the core pickups. There is usually just one wire going to the switch that taps the pickups. It sounds like it is wired to the correct poles on the switch.
