PRS S2 Mira Vs. S2 Custom 24

I've been looking at both models, and listening to the videos PRS posted on Sweetwater's site. Sound fairly similar to me, but internets/compression/headphones don't help. I like both. The Mira is mahogany body only, body is a little smaller (yes?) Body thickness is the same for both I think. Not sure if the pickups are the same but tonally they sound similar. Bridges are the big difference between the two, and the Mira being 22 frets, the Custom obviously at 24 frets.

So overall they seem fairly similar to me, but the someone who has owned either/both point out obvious differences in feel/playability/tone to me. Like I said, I do like both of them, but funds say just one. I do like the Seafoam green of the Mira, and the vintage white that they both come in.

Also, stock pickups sound pretty good - more expressive than the SE ones? I've owned 3 SE models, all fairly good, but none of them had that mojo that my current guitars possess. Could be due to the generic pickups in the SE.

Watching Mr Hayes and rob chapman really digging the mira helped me make my decision to get the mira.
I don't yet have the chops to really make any guitar sound awesome, so watching others play helped a lot.
I'm only a beginner so rate my opinion accordingly but the custom seemed creamier., and the mira more raw. The custom also a bit heavier than the mira, but still a light guitar. The mira is ultra light, not neck heavy but at times I freak out when playing as I can't feel its weight reassuringly pushing down on my leg when practising.

Yeah these were the same two videos on the Sweetwater site, a US retailer. I think I preferred the Mira too, but liked both, not surprisingly.

I've got an '08 Mira and have played the S2 a bit. There's definitely a midrange honk/snarl to the Mira's that isn't there on the Custom. I think you'll find a little more variety between to the neck and bridge pups on the 22 fret Mira, since the pups are a little farther apart than the 24 fret Custom.

As a comparison, think LP Special (Mira) compared to an LP Standard (Custom). Not saying that is exactly what they sound like, but it gives you something to relate to.

The stock pickups have much clearer tone than any of the SE models. I had planned to change them out immediately, but Ive found myself really liking the clarity they produce. So Im in no hurry to swap them out. I was really surprised. My friend bought the Starla s2 model and found that he pickups were very good in that as well. So I wouldnt worry about the pickups at all. They sound great coil tapped as well.

Thanks, I'm glad to hear the stock pickups are good - I'd prefer not to swap them out either. In general my rule is to leave stock pickups in a new purchase for a while, to really get a sense of what you like/don't like before any modding takes place. I have an '85 Les Paul Studio Custom that has the stock pickups removed with some old DiMarzios in there, which I'll probably replace, but they actually sound pretty good, so not sure if I will or not yet, and I've had it for 3-4 months now. Still tempted...

I own an s2 cu24 . Lots of sustain , honk and great playability. I liked the pickups and thought they were a step up from the se hfs. I swapped mine out though because I wanted to try out the emg jh set .

I played them both in peron first because I was in the same predicament as you. Bought the Mira because I love the midrange snarl it has ala an SG on roids.
