Hey People, I'm gonna buy (in the next few weeks) either an S2 Custom 22 or S2 custom 24 & wondered about peoples opinions on which Pups are more liked- #7s on the S2 Custom 22 or the HFS+ Vintage bass on the S2 Custom 24? (All opinions valued!) :)

Hi Daniel! I have an S2 with the #7's, I would say they are a low output, vintage inspired pickup. Lots of mids, subdued highs. The USA #7's are supposedly moderate output with a modern twist, but that's not what I hear in the S2 7's... just my opinion though. But I do love the tone, if you want a classic rock or blues vibe and don't need a lot of push, you'll love them. The HFS/VB set is more modern and the bridge pickup packs a lot of heat. If you're into metal or harder rock, they're a good pick, although I don't prefer the tone as much. But that's just me.

All that being said, I wouldn't pick your new S2 on pickups alone. The 22 will have a little more warmth in the neck pickup, because its further from the bridge than in the 24 (the extra 2 frets pushes the neck pickup back). The 24 will be a little tighter and more articulate in the neck pickup. You can always swap pickups, I would imagine you could get a different set of S2 pickups on the bay easily.

Thanks andy474x. That's some good info, good description of the flavour of the different Pups & I respect the way you put your point of view across, I know these things can be kinda subjective, yet hearing these opinions do go towards helping me in deciding what to choose. The more opinions I hear the better (as always). At this stage I am drawn to the S2 CU24 but I really gotta get back to the store to try both models out AGAIN; my itch to own one of these beauties is getting unbearable now! :)
