It's a poly finish

Yes, it's a poly finish that PRS says is very similar to what they used on just about everything for a long, long time before they introduced V12.

Its a very thin poly finish, with the stain underneath. They used this finish all throughout the 90's, before V12 was invented. I will say, owning two of these S2 models, they do chip easily, because the finish is so thin. But it also lets the wood be more resonant when you play the guitar acoustically. So its a give and take, you know?
